anything cool around where you're going to live? also, europeans hate leisurewear? i've never been to lyon (only 17k kms from me) but it's where the institut lumière is
more so in the southwestern countries - if you wear trackie dacks in public, the french will scorn you. i have three days until i leave - aaaaaaaa
coool you should see a screening there! lol trackie dacks. well I don't think I know how to impress the french anyway so maybe it's worth it anyway you traveling now? are you flying and then like driving or train or something

any advice from 667ers on how to start a kitty, be good about chores, and general roommate awkwardness lmk

Welcome to Europe So you will live in a flat with 2 people who arrive after you? I think that's less intimidating than moving in when other people are already there, so I'm sure it will be fine.

I recently went back to sharing in London for the time being, and it's an adjustment, but I'd say: - Leave the kitchen cleaner than when you found it after cooking - If something needs doing in the house and it takes 2 min or less and you have the time...do it - Learn to make small talk and ask others about their day, but equally respect space. Don't expect to be best friends- it isn't the healthiest when sharing - Learn people's schedules, when they like to cook/shower/do laundry, you'll kind of fall into a rhythm in this - Don't be afraid to asset your boundaries/be firm if something makes you uncomfortable - Look out for each other: buy some washing up liquid/soap/toilet paper if you know it needs replacing -Remember it is temporary (like everything else)

my college move has been pretty sweet, all things considered. i've been on campus for a little over two weeks and i just started classes this week. it's taking a lot of getting used to but i'm not too worried about right now, as i've only just started. even if i am burnt out as potato .
i'm in an older dorm (100+ years old) but it's got a great atmosphere and the house spirit is excellent. we just won the annual field day this weekend! everybody jokes that we're the irl version of slytherin house, bc our color is green/our mascot is a snake.
but we're better than slytherin bc we weren't invented by a hack <3 also we have gender-neutral restrooms
my room's feeling a bit small, but it's probs bc i'm in a triple it's not always comfortable but it's definitely interesting. one of my favorite things to do is get home at the end of the day and chat with my roomies
that's all i can think to write about now but i love yall ;-; sorry if i'm not as active, college takes and continues to take the piss out of me. at least i'm around other people who it *also* takes the piss out of — isn't that the college experience?

So you will live in a flat with 2 people who arrive after you? yes, rather daunting because the vibes have the potential be incredibly off. there's a super nice girl one door away from me though and we are going to go to orientation together tomorrow !
Have you never lived with roommates/away from your family before? thankfully both ! i went to france when i was 15 for a sem and have had 2 housemates in syd (definitely different sides of the coin) -Remember it is temporary (like everything else) thank you these tips are super helpful ! i am always so awkward in the common areas and asking for others to clean up - it was a really really huge problem with my first flatmate (french haha) so i put up a chore chart on the fridge (not a scheduled one - more like a to-do list and accountability one) and she bragged about never once checking it to a family friend... ya here the flat is very basic which i had anticipated but SOOOO dirty, the intern had been here for the whole summer and the toilet was BLACK... the shower was also giving grim grotto so i made the effort to do a good hour breathing in bleach for mutual benefit. i was going to deep clean the kitchen to but she moves out in 2 days and i ought to think there should be a bit of responsibility.... we will see. i wish i had better before and after pictures bc how she would keep her deposit i have absolutely no clue. little bit of a rant but with only a couple of days until she moves out i would want to treat others how i would want to be treated. in positive news there are wonderful object exchanges here – one in my building, one in the city, and one opening up in my uni for previous students to pay forward essentials. so far i have picked up cutlery, crockery, a frypan, rice cooker, and books amongst other bits and bobs ! super cute to have an international community here - in syd we have lots of pay it forward facebook groups but it's quite fast-paced bc of the population.
a kitty is a common pool of money for shared expenses, alike what bee said; with tp, butter, sugar, washing up liquid, etc. you put in a set amount each month and donate whatever loose change you have to keep the place running.
the house spirit is excellent. but we're better than slytherin bc we weren't invented by a hack <3 also we have gender-neutral restrooms my room's feeling a bit small, but it's probs bc i'm in a triple i had houses growing up in primary/high school but it was all sport related so bleh... we have all gender neutral restrooms here (at least my current uni and past school did) - we all pee the same pee #unité three in one room or three in one flat ?? americans always say roommate and flatmate interchangeably and it confuses me to no end.
what degree are you in may i ask ?

take it easy mlle brindille, living in filth with no consequences is a privilege of latin europe. i don't think this "kitty" should exist. (and if it must, it shouldn't be called a kitty) never mingle with roomies in any sense of the term, including pecuniarily.

kitty theoretically resolves pecuniary disputes.
my housemate got mad at the rest of us bc "she's the only one who buys onions" and proposed a kitty as the solution.
i mean, i still didn't want to do it, so i just bought lots of onions, now we have too many
i guess the moral of this story is that now i have to eat a lot more onions
hope that helps X

europe is actually filthy which i forgot about #nice. woke up to crumbs on the kitchen table after all my cleaning yesterday so glad to know hansel and gretel are alive and well.
my uni is 8am to 8pm plus SATURDAYS until 5 so haha. haha. this academia is gonna be DARK !
flatmate just returned (acknowledged my prescence and went straight to her room - win in my books). tomorrow is the first day of the lease but heaps of people moved in today and no sign of any permanent flatties as of yet.
@charles can you use some as toilet onions ??? braised steak and onions is also a classic
@bear ur a haterrrr and dont u live with your mOm‽
