I believe the message was meant to be seen by,
Not Jerome, not Josephine, but
Jacques Snicket, victim of many a lie.
Yet, from our list we cannot cut,

It's fairly well established that Jacques Snicket was meant to get the message. The real question is, who else will be injusticed for having the same initials?

It is not established. In fact, since the characters suggested it was for him, that's probably incorrect. VFDers seem to be fairly well informed, and I believe the vfd member who was last at headquarters would know if Jacques Snicket(an important member) was dead, after all, it's been awhile.

Agreed. I seriously believe that Justice Strauss is the correct person who was supossed to get the message. The only thing about that is that Justice must have joined VFD after TBB or otherwise she would not have been so easily intertwined in Olaf's plot.

I think it's either Justice Strauss or Jacob Snicket. Jerome Squalor makes no sense, Josephine's supposed to be dead, and we don't even know if there's a julio sham. And no spats would get such a message cause if they were in vfd they'd have raised their daughter to be a better child.

T: It's possible that the message was put out before Jacques died; he died only about a week before the Baudelaire found the message.
C: And the arsonists started starting fires at least a few weeks before then; didn't they say it was about a month ago? So the message could have been set up while Jacques was still alive.
T: But its effectiveness is now questionable due to unfortunate circumstances. You know, negative patient-care outcome.

We don't know that it's only been a week since Jacques died. We don't know exactly how long they stayed at the hospital, or how long they stayed at the carnival(do we?) I just don't think Lemony would put a message like that out there if it was only destined to be wasted on someone who was already dead. It's Lemony's style to make a thing like that turn out to be significant.
