Here we go, heres my theory.
The Baudelaires are VFD members in training, even if they dint know it. Everywhere the Baudelaires go, there is a VFD in disguise watching over them i.e. Justice Strauss, Uncle monty, cab driver, anxious clown waiter ect. They are perhaps "taking notes" on their skills. Lets think back too, that some VFD members are KIDS! Quigley is a VFD member, but hes jsut playing along with the rest, hitning the Baudelaires in directions and giving them clues, but not telling them the things they have to find out for themselves, like the meanin of VFD, kinda like Justice Strauss would know Olaf (see below for the Olaf conspiracy speculations), but she had to keep secret all the stuff she couldnt tell the kids, like who Olaf really was and all.
I have two theories on Olaf. He is either not evil and standing in the Baudelaires way on purpose, making the road to success harder, or he is evil and can be said to be something of a test fot the children and that is perhaps what they have to do to become members. I am guessing that the schism is real if the second speculation on Olaf is true.
As for the Quagmires, in theory, Quigley is a definate member, but i cant say the same for sure on the other two. Maybe they are. Probably, if Im right anyway.
And did anyone notice the hole in the quagmire story? If Duncan and Isadora were sent to Prufrock Prep 3 (or more) years ago, then why is it that Quigley claims that the fire was just after the time the Baudelaires spent at their Uncle Monty's place? and what ended the Quagmires 3 years in the orphans shack? Who know.
