Esme's not 13 anymore. She's the city's sixth most important financial adviser and organized the In Auction, I doubt anyone would take her seriously in financial cirles or organizing commitees if she was only 13.

And, this isn't really strong proof, but the Baudelaire mother read Anna Karenina after Klaus was born, so I assume Esme was told to read the book when she was the same age as Mrs. Baudelaire.
