I apologise for the watery quality of this letter,but i'm afraid the ink i am using has become diluted, a word which here means' soaked with salt water from the ocean and from the author's own tears." It is difficult to conduct my investigation on the damaged submarine where the Baudelaires lived during this episode of their lives, and I can only hope that the rest of this letter will not wash away.

Yup, that's the letter! It took me a while to read out the handwriting, but I FINALLY saw through it and it became clear, soo, like, do u think that the Bauds will spend their whole life in the submarine, or just part?

Is there a point to this thread.  KJ, I think that the Baudelaire will only spend One Thousand years on the submarine, while being made to kiss spotted toads. And I think that the submarine incident will pull an Ike, a phrase which here means "Look in The Diary of Violet Baudelaire by Dupin" That is what I want to happen. |

Sorry, I'm just trying to help this thread, and I know it's been made, but I'm not making that obvious. And I meant do you think they will spend their lives in the submarine DURING these books?

The one odd thing about the letter at the end of TSS is that they dont say "with all due respect", like they always do. And thay don't metion where the editor can find the manuscript of the Grim Grotto? Isn't that odd?

I too noticed the lack of the usual letter-to-kind-editor information. My guess is that Lemony couldn't finish the letter. Perhaps his bottle of ink got overturned when the waves rocked the submarine, and logically enough he couldn't write that. And "episode of their lives" here means "the events recorded in this particular book". Judging by the timespans of the latest books, the children will only be in the sub/grotto for a few days.

It is entirely possible that the rest of the letter was washed away, never reaching the editor. Mr. Snicket's prediction may have been very correct.
