If there was no one on the premises, then who was the one that threw the sugarbowl out to sea? Someone had to be there just before they started burning so maybe they kept the messages all uptodate and hid what they could from the enemy.

I think the person at the headquarters was K Snicket. Lemony said "Dear sister, if you are alive, I am heading north to find you..." Now we have to figure out why she was there apparently alone.

Maybe the Submarine IS hotel Deneoument. But 'cause Denemouent means Climax, theyll probably only reach it in book 13. Or maybe not. I don't know. And, out of the blue, Say Ike Anwhistle fast and it makes I can Whistle. ;D Just for all of those who dont know

I can whistle I can whistle..... I always thought they'd reach hotel denouement in book 12.... Because they go back to briny beach in book 13 says bbre. Yeah, the one place bad vfders couldn't burn, a good vfd base in a submarine, hehehehe.

Perhaps Ike's full name is Ike Anwhistle-Withcrackersinmymouth.
Anyway, I think that the last safe place of the VFDers is the Gorgonian Grotto, the underwater cave that's ever so grim. Perhaps there's a network of passageways under the ocean, leading from the hotel to the grotto or the abandoned submarine.

Have you seen this capsule summary of book 11? You really must see it:
Still pursued by the evil Count Olaf, the Baudelaire orphans attempt to reach a very important VFD meeting, but first they must travel in a rattletrap submarine to the Gorgonian Grotto, a dangerous underwater cave, in search of the sugar bowl.
Didn't Lemony say that the submarine was abandoned in his editor letter?

The submarine and the hotel together seem to have been the last resources of VFD. They salvaged a bench from the Royal Gardens, the trolley and the Vertical Flame Dimension to build them.
Perhaps the submarine has previously been abandoned by one group of VFDers, but picked up by a motley crew of neophytes, possibly led by Captain Sham...

Do you mean the real Julio Sham or Olaf in disguise? Either one would be interesting to see.

The real Julio Sham. I'm convinced he's the JS.

Hmm... I miss Justice Strauss.
And I like the idea of the Hotel being a submarine. I don't think the Sugar Bowl will be found. If it is, it might be destroyed.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooh I cannot wait.
Okay, I want to write more but I am busy. Let me just direct you all to pages 238 and 239 of the SS. I have some thoughts on that.

If the sugarbowl is found in the underwater grotto, it'll probably have its contents ruined(water tends to do that) Please don't let hotel denouement be the submarine.... I'm still at a loss for how Olaf can pursue them, he's lost all his henchmen, save 2, and his tire is blown(with no replacement in sight). Besides, he will have difficulty tracking where the bauds ended up after the got pushed along after the river.
