Well the ending could be bittersweet by count olaf dying/getting arrested and but the quagmires die. The way I see it the ending has to be bittersweet.

I think just one of the henchmen or children die in the 13th book. C'mon, I mean, SOMEONE has to die sometimes soon..

If anyone is going to die, it's Quigley, because it makes for good angst. Isadora and Duncan get their brother killed AGAIN. Plus, there is a pattern of hurting the people close to the Baudelaires. Almost all of their non-evil guardians died, and Isadora and Duncan were captured by Count Olaf for being their friend. If that's what you get for being a friend, can you imagine what will happen to a love interest? Quigley is more or less dead. Please note I haven't been spoiled, this is just speculation. As for the last book? Either bittersweet (Olaf dies, but so does someone nice) or it turns into a slasher fic SOMEONE has got to die.

Maybe someone sacrifices his/her life for the greater good, which is the children's lives. Any guesses? My money is on Violet.

I think everyone dies but sunny because Violet says that her parents expected her to take care of her younger siblings and Klaus loves Sunny. so they sacrifice themselves to let Sunny live out her life

true. A chain reaction of sacrifices seems like the DH thing to do.

Oh, I forgot. Klaus and Violet can't die because it says in TRR about them not being able to sleep years later because they didn't act when they could.

Oh, I forgot. Klaus and Violet can't die because it says in TRR about them not being able to sleep years later because they didn't act when they could. Wasn't that just Klaus? Anyway, I don't think Olaf would allow Violet to die, because he lusts after both her and the fortune that comes with her. It's sort of a tie because, if I remember correctly, Klaus is the only orphan whom no one in the troupe wants to keep alive, and yet there he will be years later, alive or at least concious. (Olaf wanted to spare Violet, and Hooky wanted to spare Sunny so he could en-cage her again.)
