Well, ive read it, and here is my verdict.
I liked the way it began, but I think it dragged on a little too much for the firt few chapters, after the 6th or 7th chapter, it got so much juicier. you find out a little history about lucafont, and in this book, Esmes new outfit is an octopus outfit, complete with suction cup pads on each tentacle. Olaf has a bunch of snow scouts rowing his mechanical octopus for him, the man on the baudelaires diving outfit is in fact, Herman Melville. Although, like many other ASoUE books, this book answers no mysteries. Just when things are getting juicy, it ends. and i am anxiously awaiting the next book. which i think, takes place at the hotel. Honestly, this is a good book, not my fav ASoUE book, but it does make me tingle with anticipation, im very thirsty to find out more!

Plot: Basically, the three baudelaires are on board the sub with Phil,who cooks for the crew,fiona, and her stepfather, Captain widdershins. Klaus discovers the location of the sugar bowl, which is in the Gorgonian grotto. they make their way towards the grotto, but the sub is too big to fit in. so fiona, violet, klaus, and sunny, make their way into the cave with their scuba suits, with the exception of phil, and captain widdershins, who stay to guard the sub. inside the grotto, they find nothing, but when they try to leave, they discover that a poisonous fungus has blocked their way. eventually the fungus wanes, and they escape, but they also discover that sunny is infected with the fungus, and has but an hour to live. wen they return to the sub, they also find out that captain widdershins has disappeared, phil too. so basically, they need to find an antidote for sunny, Captain widdershins and phil, the sugar bowl, and they also need to look out for count olaf who is lurking about in his mechanical octopus submarine.

You said The Grim Grotto wasn't that good of a book, and yet I plan for it to be my favorite. From what you said, and from the brief sentances that I read, it ends with suspense, which is awesome.
