From what I assume, Olaf is his first name (since Omar is also a first name, and is given by TDP as the incorrect name). If that's the case, what is Olaf's last name? If Olaf is his last name, what is his first name? Or is "Count" a first name, and not a title? Just wondering what you all thought. I'm sure this has been brought up elsewhere, but I didn't see it.

I would marry Olaf any day! And his girlfriend rocks. True Beatrice does seem a bit cold hearted but that may only be because she percieved some hurt or wrong done to her by Lemony. The book sent by carrier pidgeon was pretty harsh. It wasn't really mean for her to marry another man though, just she moved on with her life and Lemony didn't. Olaf has no last name.

I don't really like him or dislike him. He seems like a terrible person and all but I love him with Esme.

Imagine their kids.... Urgh. I think they are cute together, but I don't think things will last for very long. Perhaps Esme will discover that villians are "out" and dump him. I would love to see that happen.

Well, I like Lemony too. It's just that Olaf is easily one of the most interesting characters of the series. There's a lot more to him than meets the eye. He's really very powerful: he's in control of every situation, no matter what position he's in. He's also benevolent in a weird kind of way; it's theorized in CC by Violet that the freaks work for Olaf because he was basically the only person that would even pay attention to them, let alone consider take under his wing. And it's only late into the series that any of the troupe considers leaving. They have to have had a lot of loyalty for Olaf to stick by him that far, even with his shrew of a girlfriend and obvious flaws. Alternately, maybe he said he'd kill them if they left. I dunno, I like the first explanation more. It's also pretty interesting how he considers himself to be above the law (which he is), above society (which he is), and even above V.F.D. He was single-handedly able to bring down the whole organization and split it in two, after all. Not to mention the fate of the volunteers who crossed his path, i.e. Lemony, Jacques, and Beatrice. This is a man who leaves a trail of ashes in his wake and destroys everything he touches. If nothing else, he's a great villain, and you have to respect him for that. I don't have to respect Olaf for being good at causing misery, havoc, and woe in the lives of innocent people. Just look and the hated character thread and u'll see how much I hate him.

...Well, he's a villain. That's...that's kind of what villains do.
*shrug* Ah well, to each their own.

I don't like villains. I wish that in the 1st book Olaf lit himself on fire and that the entire series was about the adventures the Baudelaires enjoyed with their parents. That's just me.

...I HAVE TO DRAW THAT NOW. XDDD Sorry, but the image of Olaf flailing his arms around going "OH MY GOD, I SEEM TO BE ON FIRE" makes me laugh so hard.

FYI in the slippery slope the white faced women leave Olaf and refuse to serve him any longer. I liked that part!

i love olaf. a) like madamluna said, he's always in control of the situation. sorta like a cat, no matter what happens he'll land on his feet, and that's always cool in a dude b) his personality, i mean yeah it's evil and such, but it just makes me laugh, and he is extremely creative that he can just completely come up with a new personality every time (vile village is my favorite) c) another one madamluna said, he is sorta benevolent, which is cool, and it sorta goes back to the always being in control of the situation d) well i had another one and then i got distracted and lost it so you only get three, but i'll come back and add it when i remember it
