Don't forget the big three of Tim Curry's career....it would be Dr. Frank in Rocky Horror, Lord Darkness in Legend and Pennywise the Clown in It.

Right, but he had some other interesting roles as well. Wadsworth in Clue - that was a stupid movie but he was HILARIOUS!! And, although the part was somewhat small, he was pretty good in Home Alone 2 as the hotel manager. He also has that Gothic scent about him...the Adams Family Movies? They're pretty bad, but Tim Curry wasn't so awful in them.
Tim Curry, while he has the voice, does not look like Mr. Poe. Poe is, well, bigger.

He has a fabulous voice range, having done most of his recent work on cartoons and voice overs...Sunny is amusing and Esme is hard to describe...ever heard Jeannie's wicked sister on I Dream Of Jeannie? Same voice, almost.

I love Tim Curry and think he does it better. (Sorry Daniel handler , feeling ashamed like I am betraying the man I love.) My kids laugh hysterically at Handler's Carmelita Spats. They listen to audio books at bedtime and when they first heard that, they kept laughing so hard they couldn't go to sleep. Another funny story- I listen to them in the car sometimes and at my work we all park behind each other and leave our keys at the door and when people leave, door guys go out and move the cars around. So one day, a door guy came in from the parking lot and rushed over to me saying, "What the hell are you listening to in your tape player?!?" I guess when he turned on the car, he suddenly heard "You there, what are you doing?" in Tim Curry's scary voice of the hook handed man (TBB, when he comes and finds Klaus in Justice Strauss' library). He said he about wet his pants it scared him so much and he wasn't expecting it.

That's hilarious! My siblings listen to the tapes at bedtime, too, and before they had practically memorized them they used to laugh at the "Or my name isn't *hack hack cough cough*.... Poe" thing. I prefer DH, mostly because: 1. I heard him first and therefore got used to him 2. He knows what he's trying to say, how the accents are supposed to be, etc. because he wrote it, after all 3. He has the sad, "woe is me!", regretful tone of voice that's exactly perfect for the books. I think it depends on who you heard first, though. Tim Curry definitely has some great accents...

I'm way late on this discussion, but we'll see if anyone is still interested in rehashing the topic again.
Tim Curry is, by far, a better performer of the material. He is, after all, an accomplished actor. (Just like Count Olaf!!! Makes you think, doesn't it?) DH really doesn't have much variation between characters' voices, and more or less reads the book aloud, just like I would. Tim Curry performs the book.
I'm sure this was discussed elsewhere, but I didn't see the topic . . . why did DH read three of the books, while Tim Curry read the rest? Was TC busy during the recording of those books, or did DH just want to try his hand at doing it?

Yes, Tim Curry does have a very creepy, and perfect voice for the books. I must say too, that he makes a very good villain.

I'm not sure if I've heard Tim Curry's voices (did he by chance narrate the Harry Potter tapes?). but all I know is that I find Handler's voice to be extremely irritating. Unfortunatly, Lemon's voice sounds exactly like Handler's. What a coincidence . I'm glad that they've picked Jude Law for Lemony in the movies, because I've always imagined him with an English accent, not that bland American voice. Lemony is an awsome writer though.

I'm not sure if I've heard Tim Curry's voices (did he by chance narrate the Harry Potter tapes?). No, Jim Dale does the US audio books and the narration in the DVD menus, while British actor Stephen Fry (who recently wrote and directed "Bright Young Things") does the UK audio books as well as the narration in the Azkaban film. Here's Tim Curry's filmography (quite long)... www.imdb.com/name/nm0000347/I would dig up sound files, but you'd have to download them to listen and most people are rightfully reluctant to do that for fear of getting viruses. If you do a google search for "rocky horror wav" (he played Frank-N-Furter) or "clue wav" (as Wadsworth) you'll find plenty. As an aside, Tim Curry will be playing King Arthur in the upcoming play, "Monty Python's Spamalot". Heh. He also has that Gothic scent about him...the Adams Family Movies? They're pretty bad, but Tim Curry wasn't so awful in them. Brian, that wasn't Tim Curry in the Addams Family films, that was Raul Julia
