Wasn't the whole point of the 3rd book to establish the Marauders? Aside from Sirius escaping from jail and whatnot and Harry gaining a godfather, the whole point was that James, Sirius, Peter and Remus were Marauders. It was not that the whomping willow killed birds. It was not that the Fat Lady was a singer--oh, haha. God, you could cut out a comic relief scene here and there for actual substance. And why even put emphasis on Harry's stag pratonus if no one knows why it's a stag? The silver light would have actually been better. I forget, but did they even explain corporeal patronuses? They sure as hell didn't explain Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs, and that they made the map. I mean, how long could it take for Snape to say "Are you sure he didn't get it...straight from the makers?" Well, with Snape saying it, it could take about 40 minutes. Why are there so many comic relief scenes and little room for the real plot? It's just a bunch of comic relief scenes, with some dashes of Harry teenage angst scenes. I'm going to see the movie with a stop watch, and I'm going to time all the useless scenes (ie: most of the Knight Bus scene, the animal noises candy or whatever the hell it was, and the Whomping Willow attacking scene, and probably about dozens more) and I'm going to take the X-amount of time and make scenes that will actually be important, and I'll time the scenes I created to the exact bloody second. I'm also going to stay after the credits, and decide whether that little tidbit they always have is worth it, and if it's not, that goes in my time bank, as well. Or maybe I'll make a better scene, with a wolf, a stag, a rat and a dog. "But why those animals?" the audience would ask. "I don't get it. I understand the talking Jamaican heads, but I don't understand ANYTHING IMPORTANT ABOUT THE BLOODY MOVIE!"And DON'T GIVE DUMBLEDORE DRUGS! He's supposed to be saying wise, helpful sayings, not drug-induced philosophies on dreams and clouds! For Chrissake! So, basicially the formula for a movie is: A. take the main characters and find a way to make then angsty and/or funny. B.Rip out some pages from the book, keep those scenes in but make them angsty and/or funny. C. Add some more scenes for comic relief. But I can't really blame them. I mean, the audience is movie-goers, and movie-goers do consists of little kids who don't know how to read. And a little kid's attention is short, and can't be held by tedious plots. But at least one could read the book they're adapting, and it wouldn't hurt to answer 7th-grade English questions, like, "What is the main idea for this book?" And if he answers "To make people laugh!" then he FAILS THE COURSE AND GETS BASHED IN THE HEAD WITH A BLUNT METAL OBJECT! I can't thing of a way to end this...it was just an open-ended rant ,I guess.

I completley agree with you, no one who only watched the movie really knows who Sirius and Remus were, Did they even explain that Sirius was a Animagus dog? Or was turning into a dog just supposed to explain it? I mean they spell everything out in movies during the explaination so everything is so clear even someone barley paying attention would roll their eyes because they explain some points so many times. They don't even know why he became a dog, which is inporant in itself because it's about the Maurders connection and what kind of friends they were. No one knows about the rivalry between Snape and the Mauraders, and the pratical joke played on Snape that explains why he hates them so much. No one even knows that they were the Maurders, Harry's supposed to know that and like you said the stag is pointless because no one knows whats behind it.
A small thing I didn't like was when hermione says "If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too" THAT'S SO RON'S LINE! I know they want to make Hermione all tough and girl powery but she already gets to punch Draco she already stands up for herself in the movie she doesn't need to take Ron's one brave line that they kept. He looks like a wimp the entire movie, he does nothing other than get laughed at, and theres the one line that's his and sums up who he is with his feirce loyalty to Harry and it ets taken away from him. Poor Ron doesn't deserve that he already gets beaten up enough.

I agree completely. Most of the car ride home, I was explaining various points of the movie to my friend who hasn't read the books. I had to explain why Harry's patronus was a stag, what the code names on the map meant, basically everything about the Mauraders, and so on...
Another thing I don't like was the way the new director did it... the other two movies had a formula: Start at the aunt & uncle's house, eventually get to school, go through the year, end the movie with Dumbledore's end-of-the-year speech and/or with them boarding the train to go home. This movie... just sortof ended all the sudden. No (or almost no) let down or anything, just, "Okay, that's it, go home."

Yeah, the whole movie was basically a mishmash of all the cutesy/funny/visually appealing scenes with a minimum of the plotline left in. The movie wouldn't have had to been longer, they just could have cut out some funny scenes to put some scenes about the actual plotline in... geesh! How superficial can they get? All I can say is that they better not screw up the next two. With the story maturing, they can't think that they can just disguise the whole series as a kiddie story.

The next two are going to be the hardest since their so long and theres so much information. If they couldn't fit all the nesecary points into this movie how will they be able to do that with the next ones? I don't think it would have added alot of time if Remus had just conversationally said he was Moony when he gave Harry back the map.
And none of us were saying we didn't enjoy the movie Ineedyourhelp, god knows I did, the Sirius/Remus made me completley love the movie no matter what they would have done but it could have been done a lot better with little more effort.

I think it could be a little better if GoF was two movies cause then they could fit all the info they need. They could do it like The matrix reloaded and revolutions.

I agree, everyone. And Hermione wasn't even supposed to punch Draco. She was supposed to slap him.

I agree with every single one of you!! They didn't even explain the Marauders, and Pig and firebolts and... I just think that this dude who directed it has some serious issues.

I hope Mike Newell does a good job for GoF.

Yeah, I've heard that the third movie establishes NOTHING of importance. That's why I didn't go to see it. Plus, Lupin has a moustache reminiscent of a certain fascist dictator, which made me writhe in pain when I saw an ad in the paper.

You should still go see it. I didn't notice the Remus moustache, didn't think it was that big of a deal. It's a cute movie even though it should have been more.

I probably will end up renting it someday. I hear that, as a movie, it's pretty good. It's just that it fails to match up with some of the book.
