My friends knows someone who knows someone, etc, who works at Warner's, and she's sending some letters about complaints and concerns about the movies. So, if you have any, post them here and I'll send them out. Here's mine:
To Whom It May Concern:
I am a big Harry Potter fan, and while I thoroughly enjoyed Prisoner Azkaban (it is my favorite movie. Maybe because it's my favorite book, or because I'm partial to Remus and Sirius), I am disappointed on how the plot lack. The acting was flawless and everything else was excellent, but the very major points of the book were missed. For example, the fact that James, Sirius, Peter and Remus made the Marauder's Map, and when they figured out Remus was a werewolf, they studied to become Animagi, and would accompany Remus, as animals, on his full moon nights. And without people knowing that James became a stag, which is why Harry's patronus was a stag, why not just make a patronus a silver light? I don't believe corporeal patronus were even explained in the movie.
I understand that it does not have to be true to the book, but the people who did not read the book were left in the dust. I would not be as upset if there was simply not enough time--there was time, but it was given to seens that, in my opinion, served no purpose. Several scenes come to mind, starting with the beginning where Daniel Radcliffe is doing homework and Richard Griffiths keeps entering. Other scenes include half--if not more--of the Knight Bus scene, the scene where Daniel Radcliffe and the boys in the dorm are trying animal noise candies, and a series of scenes involving the Whomping Willow. The tree's agressiveness was expressed in the second film, or one scene in Prisoner of Azkaban would have sufficed. But there were, if my memory serves me correctly, three or four scenes.
This is why a lot of other Harry Potter fans are worried about the fourth movie. It is the same amount of time as Prisoner of Azkaban, but the book was over 300 pages more. If the full plot of a 435 page book could not be expressed in two and a half hours, then what of the 752 page book, the turning point of the series?
