Hey, there's this Forensics tournament coming up in November. A friend of mine wants to do an oral interpretation of a scene from HP. It would be best to have an emotional or comical scene in which many characters (so there are many voices) participate. Any ideas? It can be from any of the 6 books.

The scene in SS where Harry (on the island with the Dursleys) finds out from Hagrid that he's a wizard.
The most difficult task will be cutting for time. What is your time limit?

Haha I was just talking about this today. DONT DO HP FOR FORENSICS. Its too popular, it won't work. Nothing could be done from the later books anyway because too much explanation would be required for someone to understand it. Anyway if your friend does Harry Potter it will just turn out awkward and weird.

Forensics? HP? Okay somehow I can't see that picture clearly.
I suggest Sirius' death. Or the very, very ending of the 6th book, I loved that part.

Don't do Harry Potter.
I need a Forensics piece for prose or poetry. I'm so out of ideas.
But its definitely not going to be from Harry Potter. If only Watch Your Mouth was cleaner then I'd just be able to use somethng from there.

I would use the Christmas supper scene from book 3. I've always wanted to join Forensics....

Why don't you? It's great!
Pandora, it seems no topic is taboo in Forensics any more. Could you just clean up the language and use TB8 anyway? (I've never read it, so I'm no judge of how it would play in interp.)
Prose or poetry - is it specified humorous or serious? Do you have a preference?

Okay guys... The time frame is 4:30 to 7:10.
Also, this isn't for me. It's for a girl who's on the team with me. I gave her the suggestion of doing the Shrieking Shack scene near the end of HP3. There are many characters in it, and she's intent on doing Snape, and he's there. What do you think?

(I've never read it, so I'm no judge of how it would play in interp.) I can't use it because I used it last year. And while no topic is strictly off limits there are definitley things that shouldn't be done. It doesn't matter whether its funny or serious but I want something light and interesting. I'm looking for a prose piece. You're in Forensics Traggles? You don't seem to be the type. I need a piece by Tuesday. I sort of found one but I don't think I can say magikarp so many times.

Is David Sedaris overdone where you are? I think he's "light and interesting." Dave Eggars has a neat scene in "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" where he's out on a date and left his brother with a weird babysitter. He spends the whole night imagining all th horrible things that could be happening to Topher instead of enjoying himself. It's both funny and touching. I also found some interesting stuff here: www.mcsweeneys.net/but I haven't read through much of it yet. What's the one you found?

Three words: SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE. Gee... Put a spoiler warning next time. Ruined the new book for me, ruined. Also, what is Forensics?

Speech and Debate interscholastic competition, which may also include oral interpretation events. "Forensics" usually refers only to the debate events.

David Sedaris isn't exactly overdone but he is done alot recently. Plus it lacks something if you're not a gay man. Pester gave me this: 66.226.74.68/magikarp.shtml

OOOOOOOOh . . . kay. That selection goes WAY beyond what I'd be comfortable with, decency-wise. The judges in this area (small schools, rural area) would run screaming out the door! I saw two girls do Sedaris pieces that I liked. One was called "Snow Day," a little short, but suited the girl who did it. The other was "Jesus Shaves." It worked for her, too. However, these are way on the mild side compared to that "magikarp" thing. EDIT: I was looking around on that site and found this. It's a fun little rant, but may be too much on one level emotionally. 66.226.74.68/cirque.shtml
