True. But there's a difference between pretending to kill someone, and actually severing their ear. I mean, after he killed Dumbledore, who would still doubt that he was a Death Eater?
When he flees from McGonagall was a tad suspicious; he didn't fight back at all, he just countered all of her spells and fled.

The way he killed Dumbledore and how Dumbledore reacted made everyone doubt he was a Death Eater. He just kind of sits there the whole book and tries not to do anything that would give him away.

Indeed, that was one of the red flags that he was loyal to Dumbledore, he refused to fight either the teachers or Harry.

Well, he wouldn't really want to fight Harry anyway seeing that he was supposed to be protecting him. But then that links up with the request from Dumbledore anyway.

Right, the fact that he refused to fight twice when we all know he's extremely powerful raises suspicion.

Killing spell, probably. Or maybe some other dangerous spell? I mean, she got hit right in the heart, after all.
Does it matter? Bellatrix is dead.

Does it matter? Bellatrix is dead. I don't think we'll find that out for sure until the encyclopdia.

We won't find out bellatrix is dead? Of course she's dead we saw her body.
Though about the curse, I'm not sure, will there really be things that specific in the encyclopedia?

Maybe she used some sort of freezing curse or stopping curse, if it hit her in the heart, that would probably kill her.

I don't think Mrs. Weasley used a killing curse, no matter how mad she was, she's not a killer. I think Bellatrix got stunned then sent to jail.

I think it was a killing curse because after Bellatrix fell over.

Doesn't Petrificus Totalas (sp?) make people freeze then fall over?

Yea, but it makes their entire body lock up, and that definitly didn't happen to Bellatrix.

It seems pretty clear that she dies. Rowling likens it to Sirius' death "Bellatrix laughed, the same exhilirating laugh her cousin Sirius had given as he toppled backwards through the veil, and suddenly Harry knew what was going to happen before it did." And then it says "Voldemort's fury at the fall of his last, best lieutenant exploded...."
I mean, sure, there's ambiguity, but does it really matter? I'm pretty sure she's dead.
