Thanks everyone for voting for me, I decided to give this its own thread.
Now with bonus content. This song was mostly playing while I wrote it, listen while you read if you want.
So here we are, broken, adrift, alone.
Everything we were looking for has come crashing down on top of us.
My dear Klaus, we have failed to bring hope, it looks like we will fail to even return.
Kit and Ink had gone, The remaining crew of the Queequeg and the self-sustaining hot air balloon chose not to. They were in no state to fight, let alone make their way back to the shore.
The dark question mark in the water loomed ever closer, yet the survivors didn't seem to notice, apart from one. She sat on the edge of the ruined Queequeg, looking down into the water. Looking down at the question mark.
Apart from one, they all panicked, until injury and exhaustion put a stop to that. Then the eagles came back, the eagles that had caused all this, flying ever closer to their wreckage, threatening. This brought back the panic, but not for long, there was another choice.
They all turned as they heard the splash, no one had noticed her just sitting there, looking down into the water, and no one saw her jump. They looked, just in time to see her swimming down, towards the question mark, and as one, they followed.
Sometimes a choice isn't a choice at all, I heard it calling to me.
What remained for me here? Except for you, my dear Klaus, I had nothing.
But I can't face you now, we failed terribly, and I can't go back.
But I heard it calling to me, I don't know what it is, but it has become the only thing that matters, I must go to it.
You will probably never see this letter, but I do hope you find me, in the great unknown.
Always yours, world without end,
Fiona.
More bonus material, translations from the French. I perhaps should have credited these parts to the original poets and lyricists when I entered the contest, but I didn't think of it at the time.

Into The Void - by BSam - (The Great FIunknOwNA)

English Translation
And when the day arrives
I'll become the sky
And I'll become the sea
And the sea will come to kiss me
For I am going
Home
Nothing can stop me now
Et il est un jour arrivé
Marteler le ciel
Et marteler la mer

Ce pays nous ennuie, Ô mort! Appareillons!
Si le ciel et la mer sont noirs comme de l'encre.
Nos cœurs que tu connais sont remplis de rayons!
This is the first verse of the eighth and final part of Charles Baudelaire's poem, "Le Voyage," from Les Fleurs du Mal. It is translated by William Aggeler as follows:
O Death, old captain, it is time! Let us lift the anchor!
This country wearies us, O Death! Let us set sail!
Though the sea and the sky are black as ink,
Our hearts which you know well are filled with rays of light!
Ce pays nous ennuie, Ô mort! Appareillons!
Si le ciel et la mer sont noirs comme de l'encre.
Nos cœurs que tu connais sont remplis de rayons!
