nope, never even heard of barnes. sounds fun, but it says it's a fictionalized version of shostakovich's life, innit

Tbh I expected a bigger response to my Klaus/Dmitri discovery. By now I am actually quite convinced that Handler must have talked to Helquist about doing this. After that I realized that Charles Baudelaire actually looked quite a bit like Count Olaf. I have now also done a post about the similarities between Count Olaf and Charles Baudelaire. They're not quite as striking as with Klaus/Dmitri, but still apparent, and I think unlikely to be a coincidence considering that Baudelaire is the namesake of the orphan protagonists. Here's a taste (for more click through the link):

I would be willing to forego the involvement of NPH in the Netflix series if we could get Charles Baudelaire to play the role instead.

I'm actually wondering whether Daniel Handler --if my Olaf/Charles theory is correct, that is-- has told the filmmakers of the 2004 adaptation and/or told Netflix, when they were in process of settling on the look of Olaf, about this visual inspiration. To me it seems like especially NPH's Olaf resembles Charles Baudelaire.
And Louis Hynes, btw, looks quite a bit like young Shostakovich, too (even more than Helquist's Klaus), so I wonder if that was considered during casting. And if not, I guess they nailed it anyway.

I always thought Violet looked like Virginia, but never thought of Shostakovich. Good one, Terry.
I was listening to some of Travis' b-sides and found this:

While out walking today, I noticed a banner bearing a version of the following motif and letters: What inscrutable truth lurks behind this organisation with an eye insignia and three initials for a name?

I'm sure they're just going to set up a village somewhere to watch those birds. I don't see how that could lead to any problems.

The other day, my mum was telling me she was concerned that she hadn't got some test results back. And I said, "No news is good news." Which was very true in some respects because her test came back clear.

When I was in the car going to New Year's Eve last week, I passed near a fire truck, a trolley and a bakery that was selling a special coconut cake... it was too much for my heart.
Also, in french class, my teacher talked about reptiles and how to distinguish between an alligator and a crocodile... and then, a classmate called Josefina started to make a lot of grammatical mistakes over the board.

At work today there was a employee from an elderly services organisation which I thought was primarily made up of women but it turns out there are men who work for it too. Two of the men were called Charles and Phil. 😳

My boyfriend and I were on a train earlier today, and I was staring at people's feet. I got a terrible shock of this guy's socks patterned with eyes. O.O

At work today there was a fireman who was an area commander. Recently we had a gas leak in one of the buildings in the Main Street of town. The one alongside needs to be pulled down, which he said was "unfortunate". Also saw this picture in a local newspaper.
