I suppose this week is out of the question, though I'll be in Hawaii for next...Perhaps this week. Perhaps today. Yeah, today'll work. It isn't as though there's a strict date and time.
A Series of Unfortunate Events WEIRD SHIPS WEEKby: Two-time WSW participant, (hon) Dr. Alice F. Thompkins/Wilde/Le Grey/Hitler/Whatever

For the most part, the Fearsome Fiction section of 667 Dark Avenue is a dry fluffy place, much like a cotton ball, full of ordinary relationship pairings (or “ships”) such as Violet/Quigley, Olaf/Esmé, and pre-VFD scandal Lemony/Beatrice. Provided that Skeleton Key is not in a particularly productive mood, BSam does not feel like a songfic, or a former FF veteran has not returned, the front page of the section can sometimes fill with these ships and drive moderator George Dupin to boredom and nostalgia of fonder, darker days. Then, it’s posted.
“Hey, I know! Why don’t we have another Weird Ships Week?”
Dupin agrees and so-called FF regulars are left wondering...
WTF is WSW?Weird Ships Week, or WSW, was a concept first thought of in the A Series of Unfortunate Events section of fanfiction.net. Its premise was this: several authors (being bored with the ordinary relationships) would post normally off-color fanfiction devoted to unusual pairings for about week or so. Soon Violet was paired with Esmé, Quigley with Isadora, and Lemony was digging up Beatrice’s corpse for less than noble purposes. At the end of the week (or so), some sort of prize would be awarded.
I don’t remember if those prizes were ever actually awarded, but I do remember the awesome stories which came out of these weird ships and the freedom the authors of said stories felt in knowing that their pairing would not be looked on with disgust. It was an absolutely fantastic experience, unlike anything else of that time, and seeing as the main authors who participated in the original have since migrated to 667, has endured here for nearly three years.
WSW is not a set week..in fact, it is usually the product of pining for anything but “klaus misses fiona violet’s in love with two boys esmé ‘n olaf kiss and make up” type of fanfiction. It is called at random, but thanks to Dupin, has grown more organized.
How does one participate in WSW?Write and edit a story featuring an unusual pairing. Log on to
www.asoue.proboards11.... Enter the section marked “Fearsome Fiction”. Click the “Post New Thread” button. Post story. Repeat.
Define “unusual pairing”.Weird ship.
Okay, define “weird ship”.A weird ship usually falls into one of eight categories.
-Slash (such as Lemony/Olaf)
-Pedophilia (such as Sunny/Fernald)
-Incest (such as Klaus/Sunny)
-Necrophilia (such as Dewey corpse/Kit)
-Bestiality (such as Hector/a VFD crow)
-A relationship between a man and a woman (of a similar age, not related, and not deceased) that would be unusual because they are not obviously connected in the books (such as Beatrice/Frank)
-A mixture of any of the above six (*or all, if you can manage.)
-Hector rape. (such as an unwilling Hector/Mrs. Morrow)
*You can’t.
I will explore each of these categories in depth and include examples of ships from the section later. I believe that you had another question...
But, Alice, about whom should I write a story?ANYONE, as long as it’s unusual. NO ONE is off limits. Think that Sir and Charles had feelings for each other when holding hands in The Penultimate Peril? Write it! What about Olaf and Violet? He’s mentioned her as being beautiful on several occasions. Lemony misses Jacques...a lot.
And don’t forget the Hector rape. You’ve always got a friend in J. and other Hector fangirls if you do a Hector rape fiction.
