I would like to dedicate this story to three wonderful people:
Kara - For letting me call earlier when I was freaking out and making me feel better.
Jenny - For being the first person to welcome me here when I first joined last August.
Shelly - For inspiring me to express myself through the characters I adore.
*hugs you all*

Tell me I will never die
Take away my pain
Rock me gently in your arms
Say that I’ll remain in your keeping
Esmé lay sprawled across the bed, sobbing into her pillow. Her small body shook violently with every quivering breath she took.
“Darling,” Jerome’s soft, soothing voice echoed in her ears. “Are you alright?”
“M— make it sto-op,” she said in a quivering voice. “Ju— just take this horrible pain away and— and let me be normal…”
Without a word, Jerome sat down beside his wife and tugged her into his arms. She curled hers around his neck and hid her face in his chest, soaking his necktie with her tears.
Brush the hair out from my eyes
Read me a good story
Kiss my fingertips good night
Say that I can stay in your company
“Sweetheart,” Jerome said after a few minutes. “Come on. Lift up your pretty head and look at me.”
With a sniffle Esmé obliged, tears pouring down her cheeks as she met her husband’s eyes. Slowly, Jerome reached over and gently brushed a strand of hair away from her sky-blue eyes. Taking her hands in his, he kissed each of her fingertips.
“I hate this,” she said. “But I… I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Jerome said. “And I hate to see you so sad.”
And I know this much is true
I have lived inside of you
You have always seen me through
While I am peacefully sleeping
Leaning forward, Jerome planted a kiss on Esmé’s lips and then two more on each of her cheeks where the tears were streaming. It felt as though he were tasting her suffering and her sadness.
“Here,” he said, taking her by the shoulders and guiding her down into the blankets with him. “Lie down and close your eyes.”
“I can’t,” Esmé whimpered. “I— I’m so afraid.”
“There’s nothing be afraid of, darling. I’m right here, and not going anywhere.”
With a tiny sob Esmé nestled closer to her husband, tucking her head underneath his chin. Placing one hand on his stomach and the other on his shoulder, she closed her eyes.
You have always been my friend
I can see your beauty shining
I will love you till the end
Long will I remain in your keeping
“Thank you,” Esmé whispered, “for taking me back, and for always being my friend.”
“You’re welcome, my love,” Jerome whispered back, holding her close as he stroked her hair.
And I know this much is true
I have lived inside of you
You have always seen me through
While I am peacefully sleeping
While I am peacefully sleeping
As Jerome rocked Esmé gently in his arms, she was granted the strength she needed to make it through the night.
