I take Finite Forest to mean that the trees there are being cut down. Maybe its near Lucky Smells Lumbermill.

Also, when the Quagmire fire happened, Quigley was studying a map of Finite Forest.

It could be a sign, maybe the Bauds will end up there at the end of book 13 and figure important VFD secrets. It could be the next "last safe place" secret from the schism side of VFD, so if things go wrong at the hotel they'll all head there?

I take Finite Forest to mean that the trees there are being cut down. Maybe its near Lucky Smells Lumbermill. The Finite Forest is indeed near the Lucky Smells Lumbermill. From TMM, pp. 3-4: The Baudelaire orphans looked out the grimy window of the train and gazed at the gloomy blackness of the Finite Forest, wondering if their lives would ever get any better. An announcement over a crackly loudspeaker had just told them that in a few minutes they would arrive in the town of Paltryville, where their new caretaker lived...The trees of Finite Forest are very tall and have almost no branches, so they look like straight pipes (TMM, p. 4). These are almost certainly the trees the Mill uses, because the trees are delivered whole and require only debarking to be made into logs (TMM p. 37).

Yes. Indeed, thank you for the quote. It si said to be North of Tedia, and it is indeed on the eastern side of Paltryville (map in LSUA)

But I did find it very "idea stimulating" It could have references to the 13th book. And it is only your opinion that it isn't.

The Finite Forest is called "finite" because its supply of trees is limited. While all forests are technically finite, this one has been named to emphasize its finiteness--another gloomy place name.
Also, I wonder where its secret passageway leads. To Paltryville, which is nearby?

Did they have a secret tunnel at all? "From then on we decided to go underground, beginning with the network of tunnels we had to dig beneath that lamppost, but our spies at The Daily Punctilio advised us to dig a new headquarters, underneath the "abandoned shack" in the northwest region of the Finite Forest." They dug, yes, they were underground, but it doesn't actually say that they had any secret tunnels leading anywhere under the Finite Forest.
