Okay, here's my little theory about safe places: (Heres the obvious part) Each VFD house leads to a safe place.
Valley of Four Drafts USED to be a safe place: The Montgomery and Quagmire (so far) have led to that safe place. Jaque's house probably did too, since Quigley talked about him so much. OH YEAH: And so did Paltryville.
667 Dark Avenue: So far only the Baudelaire mansion has led to there, but still... Could that be the closest safe place to them? I mean, 667 is obviously some kind of VFD place.
Also, the Veritable French Diner is on Dark Avenue. So there.

That's an interesting theory. However, we now know that there is only one safe place left, and that is Hotel Denouement (and that really isn't that safe). Therefore, there aren't really any more safe places to speak of.

Uh, since when is there a secret passageway from Paltryville to Monty, the Quagmires and the VFD headquarters? There is one between Monty and the Quags. That is all. Quigley travelled (nowhere is there a mention of any secret passage) to Paltryville and the VFD headquarters in the Mortmain Mountains that is all.

Secret passages we know about: Baudelaire Mansion to 667 Dark Avenue. Quagmire Mansion to Montgomery Mansion. Safe places: Valley of Four Drafts (Burnt) Hotel Denouement The floor above the penthouse on 667 Dark Avenue could also be an abandoned safe place. I think that the Baudelaire tunnel was meant to lead to there, and that it also came out on the "top" floor as a means of getting out. I think that there was an elevator there once, but when Esmé moved in with Jerome, she managed to get rid of it and leave just the shaft.

While I wouldn't be surprised if there was a secret passageway from the Snicket mansion to the dairy, I'm not sure if there's evidence for it. Elaborate?
Thanks for that list, D. Maybe you should submit it to the Documents section.

There is none, I was just saying that there most LIKELY is one. Not that there is one. Thanks for that list, D. Maybe you should submit it to the Documents section. And destroy my monopoly on that section? I think not! Oh dear, now that i've said that, he'll DEFINATELY post it.

I don't think that it's really big or important enough for Dastardly Documents.

I understand what you're saying. While we don't have any evidence for the existance of this passageway, it would make sense if it turned out to be there. Secret passages aren't easy to dig. A few within the city make sense, but passages out to remote rural sites do not (especially out into the Hinterlands or up into the Mortmain Mountains from the city). Valorous Farms Dairy may be too remote for a passage. We have only Quigley's word that there is a passage from his home to Dr. Montgomery's. His word is highly suspect, so I'm doubtful on this one.

I believe Quigley on that issue, as it fits in with the locations of the entrances to the only other secret passageway we know of.
But let's not allow this to become yet another thread debating whether or not we can trust Quigley.

But let's not allow this to become yet another thread debating whether or not we can trust Quigley. He has a point though. The whole semester thing with him and his siblings might be explained if he was lying about the passage and spent the time doing something else. So at least we should mention that there might not actually BE a passageway. Also, I got the impression that the dairy was close to the Snicket mansion. I'd find a quote, but i'm too lazy. Edit: Seems that I am not only lazy, but also a liar: "....not born only born on a dairy farm (simply because my parents stopped by to purchase garlic butter at exactly the wrong time)..." That kind indicatest that they live close together... But still, Monty doesn't exactly live near the city, and the Quagmires do (I think) so that must have been one big tunnel.

Another safe place that hasn't been mentioned is the Vineyard of the Fragrent Drapes (or Grapes) where Beatrice and Lemony would have been married, and where Jerome and Esme were.
The Baudelaires seem to have visited the place in person when they were younger. I remember seeing something about donkeys at the vineyard, but I don't remember which book mentioned. Maybe their parents were married there, too.

Maybe their parents were married there, too. You're quite right, although I can't remember the book either - I think that it was TVV, THH, or TCC. It was specifically stated that either the grapes or the drapes were "very fragrant" and that they were taken around the vineyard on carts pulled by donkeys.
