Actually, there's this topic. It's still on the first page.

I'm of the belief that Heimlich Hospital actually was named after Henry Heimlich, in-universe - instead of it just being an out-of-universe allusion to him. So that's part of why I think the '70s or '80s would work best. You might argue the same thing about a lot of the allusions, especially since the inspiration for "Briny Beach" is quoted directly in TGG. That said, the Baudelaire parents probably didn't set out to name their kids after a murderer and his victim...

I guess the other allusions aren't as obvious, but pretty much anyone who knows something about medicine knows who Heimlich is. It would seem strange to have a hospital with his name on it before he becomes a prominent figure.

Heimlich means "secretly" in german- a reference to the library of records perhaps?

Pop culture in the ASOUE universe is slightly different then our own. But their are somethings that exist. For example George Floyd's Another Brick in The Wall is real and Duke Ellington is real. Book authors and other book publications alter from the original years.

Book authors and other book publications alter from the original years. I think you mean Pink Floyd. And I agree that you can't use dates of books to fix things - I think it was just about possible to work out a timeline which fitted them all in when we just had ASOUE, but ATWQ messes that up. My strictly fannish theory is that the Swinster Pharmacy is a portal between worlds, and so things from one side can sometimes be found in the other. (DH lives mainly in our world, and LS in the world of ASOUE, but they keep in touch.) Perhaps the portals are like the portals to Narnia, and one cannot be sure when one will come through.

That's an interesting theory, I'd like to hear more about it
