Is anybody besides me worried that the lemony snicket movie will do the same thing to ASOUE that the Harry Potter movies did to the harry potter books?

You mean adapt the book series to a talkie film, hiring people to play the characters, building sets that suit the books, putting them in theatres that project them on large screens for people to see and several months later release them on discs or tapes for people's own private enjyoment? EGADS!

Or that Peter Jackson did with the Lord of the Ring movies? They're nice pictures, translations to another medium. They don't replace the books, nor ruin them.

yeah, I wouldn't trust the rights to Nick. Are they gonna make a second movie that has the 4,5, and 6? If they do, anyone wanna pm about auditions? I wanna try out for Carmelita Spats, or Isadora.

Changing the movie? Do you mean the book? Or whatever-doesnt' matter.
Hum...I'm really skeptical about this movie, but, as the quote goes, "rich men need to get richer, don't they?" It'll probably suck, and bring the books to ungodly levels of consumer popularity. All the world needs now is Count Olaf action figures ("Now with ten fun phrases!) and Justice Strauss's Library Playsets.
Ugh indeed.

Yeah...Nickolodeon is of course the creator of...*sob* Rocket Power. But then there's the Amanda Show + All That and those other great shows, but... ...all three first books combined into one? I mean, that's...either 3 hours+ or a sucky movie. And I have the feeling it's not gonna be three hours. No one could beat LOTR: The Return of The King's 3 hrs. 20 min! Anyway, 3 books crammed into one = bad movie.

This is going to be bad. Don't get me started on ROCKET POWER, ALL THAT AND THE AMANDA SHOW all 3 suck. If they don't make all the books into movies it wouldn't make sense to people who haven't read the book. I suppose it will depend on how the first goes at the box office. Also the first 3 books will be the worst because the least things happen in them and the movie will be repetitive.

DH himself said he had once been adamant about not making action figures but then he remembered playing with such as a kid and decided it wasn't fair to deny kids that just because he was being a snob about his work (his own words, not mine!) Personally, whatever ASOUE merch is made I will pick up, provided it isn't too awful, for the simple fact I want the movie to do well and I want DH to make money so he keeps writing.

ditto on that yeah, Nick is definately gonna ruin it. haha, Aurora, count olaf action figure. that was a good one. but seriously, Nick movies generally suck. But like Fire said, it'll depend on how good it'll do at the box office, and how good it looks to me. I'm just glad that they took kids that we haven't heard of (well at least I haven't) instead of stupid teeny booper people like Hilary. *wants to ring her neck*

DH himself said he had once been adAt about not making action figures but then he remembered playing with such as a kid and decided it wasn't fair to deny kids that just because he was being a snob about his work (his own words, not mine!) Personally, whatever ASOUE merch is made I will pick up, provided it isn't too awful, for the simple fact I want the movie to do well and I want DH to make money so he keeps writing. Yeah...I read that too... Personally, I'm just not a big fan of action figures. *shrugs* I agree-I'm not against all of it. Some ASOUE merch would be cool, but like with the Harry Potter movies, I'm afraid it'll start going overboard...I mean, HP trading cards and "potion kits"...I guess I can understand those, to an extent. Things like that help increase the child's imagination-they can play games and imagine new events that might occur in the books. But then they seem to just slap the "Harry Potter Logo" on some cheap toy and...yeah. I guess I just mean that usually, when they start making merch for books, they end up with some useless pieces of supercrap...they have no purpose other than to exploit a series of books for their marketing value. I mean, can you give me an honest to god reason for one to have a Harry Potter clock? I think I was going somewhere with that...but maybe not. I do think it's refreshing that they're using some new kids we've never seen before as an alternative to people like Hilary Duff, as Rikku mentioned (A tad off topic, but does anyone else tend to think of The Simpsons-"Duffman...is...tired!"- when they hear "Hilary Duff"? Or is it just me?). I plan on seeing the movie even though I really don't have any high expectations about it and really don't want it to occur ("Hypocrisy does not invalidate a point" )... Hum. Edited because I just felt like adding some things.
