Yes, it's a real book. It's on Amazon and the book descriptions, including a review by Daniel Handler, make it sound oddly alluring.

I read some of the sample pages, and the list of characters mentioned an evil duke with a crooked nose. I wonder if this character inspired Count Olaf's looks. If you ever intend to ask a few questions to Lemony, ask what dreadful fictional villain inspired Olaf's looks and/or personality. My theory may well be verified.

I was looking for that! That's so cool! I'd almost lost hope... now... if only I could somehow pay to buy it...

I had my sister buy it. It's cute, but I don't feel I got my money's worth.

No. I don't think so. I'll try to reread it.
The illustrations of the Duke didn't look like Olaf.

Bruce said in SS that bears had once hibernated in the Mortmain caves. Intelligent bears that were trained as soldiers. One day they all left, no one knew why.
Quigley, on the other hand, said that Volunteer Feline Detectives had lived in the caves. (The same lions taen by Olaf who could smell smoke?) They were both presumably speaking in code...

I know this is so off-topic..but....one of the Bears' names is Marzipan, and that's the girls name on Homestar Runner...
