How many persons in ASOUE can whistle Mozart's Fourteenth Symphony?
We know 3: Ike Anwhistle, Beatrice and Mrs. Baudelaire (unless they are the same person)
I started thinking in this, when I was reading the TUA index. And there says Mozart's Fourteenth Symphony, 79, 146. Well, on the page 79 is the theater critic Lemony wrote. But, on the page 146 is the letter from an "O's henchmen" who was disguised as a cow, and there says: Whistling one of my favorite tunes, I entered the building and found the librarian...
Now, who is this person, whose name we can't read?

I guess that this person isn't from the VFD, because the librarian said the code, and he/she didn't know the answer.

It's odd... I never thought about the symphony... I barely even remember it being mentioned

It's not essintal for VFD to whistle Mozart's 15th. If it began with G, it's Gerladine.

DO'H! Why do they need to know it? L emony and Jaques are VFDer's and they can't do it. And Beatrice- she can do it and as far as we know, she's not a VFDer.

It would be mentioned in VFD training booklet.

But, if you remember correctly, the training book is cut off before it is finished, so, who knows what else might be in it that we don't know about?

*plays dramatic music*
Has anyone actually HEARD the symphony? I haven't. Then I could whistle it. Or at least try.

I guess that this person isn't from the VFD, because the librarian said the code, and he/she didn't know the answer. Whistling the fourteenth symphony is a V.F.D. code that was in action before (and possibly after) the schism. It's mentioned in Snicket's review as being absolutely essential in their V.F.D. play before Esme and Olaf take the play over and Snicket gets fired from the Daily Punctilio. Since the person disguised as a cow didn't know the counter-password, "The question is, has she been good to me.", it must have been added after the schism for members of Lemony and Jacques' side of the V.F.D. to recognize eachother by.

Maybe Motzarts 14th Symphonyisn't that important, after all, Ike didn't whistle Motzarts 14th, he whistled Beethovens 4th Quartet. Maybe whistling ran in the family.
