In LSUA, there's a list when Sally Sebald is writing a letter to Mr. Snicket, I believe.

they are
Ghosts in the desert, goblins in the garden, mummies in the jungle, lions in the mountains, vampires in the retirement community, leeches in the lake, werewolves in the rain, surgeons in the theatre, gorillas in the fog, bats in the train station, ants in the fruit salad, ZITS, hypnotists in the office, bigfoot in the mall, alligators in the sewer, realtors in the cave, the littlest elf - pg 66
i have noticed that many of them decscribe situations that have happened, may happen, etc...
also, i have just come to the conclusion that if ZITS was filmed during TRR then maybe other films match up w/ other books (ie TWW=leaches/lake & realtors/cave) there are many that could or may have happend
TBB- TRR-ZITS TWW-leeches in the lake, realtors in the cave TMM-hypnotists in the office, TAA- TEE- TVV- THH-surgeons in the theatre TCC-lions in the mountains (?- calargi lions) TSS-lions in the mountains (?- volunteer feline detectives)

they are ... gorillas in the fog... I've seen a movie called "Gorillas in the Mist" with Sigorney Weaver. Do you think all listed movies are similar to real movie titles?

SunnyB-- are you IsadoraQ? Yeah, I thought perhaps some of the film titles were jokes off of real titles. Yep, I just changed it back, since everyone seems confused. *hee hee*

I think it's worth mentioning that Gustav III of Sweden was assassinated at a masked ball held in an opera house in the Baroque period. Rolf, another one of Olaf's aliases, was a king of Norway. Maybe he names himself after Kings when possible because he has delusions of grandeur. I bet he's not a real count, not even a poor one.

I should have known that! I can't tell you how many times I've seen Un Ballo In Maschera (The Masked Ball) by Giuseppe Verdi, which is based on this incident.

Giuseppe Verdi, you say? There's a fellow I ought to know more about. (Not just because of the masked ball connection, but in general.) Anyway, the Sebald code . . . humm . . . I write people letters in it. Unfortunately, none of them know the code.
Yeah, I did see a lot of parallels between titles and the Baud's situations. Any idea why The Littlest Elf keeps coming up?

Crows in the village would be fun...
The littlest elf?? I don't know. In LSUA, L put it as one of his coded books...and he did write it (Monty Kensicle is an anagram for Lemony Snicket). Maybe it's something like Ivan Lachrymose: Lake Explorer...just sort of a distraction. Gustav Sebald did direct it...

Maybe it's to get future recruits to believe in talking animals, like how you sort of beleived in them after Bambi.

Doesn't the Littlest Elf contain the Sebald Code? and its a book and a movie, is it?
odd, i just noticed that it was written by Monty Kensicle, but adapted to film by Gustav Sebald. hmmm...
