Karma is gone, no doubt. The decision has been made, but what were the people of 667 convinced by the debaters? In a thread asking if their opinion had changed, 17 people voted and displayed their thoughts. Over 88% of these voters’ opinions were unchanged. Only one person voted “I was pro and now con”. And then there was one person who didn’t know there was a debate going on. Even though it was in the announcements, it has been going on for a while, and a new board was created just for it. But, who knows, that person may have been away. Anyway, here are some of the things that the people of 667 had to say.
“My opinion hasn't really changed. I didn't want karma before, and I don't want it now. I'm happy about the outcome.” – Erik
Sora and Triangle Eyes both expressed sorrow over the loss of Karma.
Kimia had a rather interesting thing to say:
“I was only just getting exalted so I wish we either didn't get rid of it or got rid of it during the time I had like 12 karma points. But all the drama is gone now so I guess it's good.”
Indeed the drama is gone. But some argue this: Was the drama really that big? Sure, a couple threads were made, but this is just the same problem as before. Don’t go in the thread. It’s that easy.
Says Freshie: “It [karma] made me feel special.”
It seemed that most of the people who posted felt that karma was good. Some said their profile was boring without it. J. even said the board felt naked without it. I do admit that karma had something to say about a member.
But on Saturday, Sister Luna made a very valid point about karma.
“The question is really "if you were pro-karma, were you pro-karma because you kept getting exalted, or were you pro-karma because you thought it was honestly a good system?" I was always happy with my karma count (although it ranged from 4 to like 23 or something), but it really is a system that tends to have people equate their self-esteem to numbers on a message board, so I'm not heartbroken over seeing it go.”
Indeed, I’m sure some members were fond of their high karma. But it is the same thing with people with low karma. A member with low karma might want karma to be abolished.
Karma is gone, but a question remains. Does Kyle still owe us 24 pictures?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SNICKETFACE!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
[Editor’s Note: J. has requested that her rant be left in lower case.]
j’s rant.
i was at the store today because my mom needed to buy my grandmother an ugly old woman's scarf and there were these annoying girls talking about how muslims needed to go on their own plane so if they wanted to blow something up they could blow themselves up and they really hurt my head because the racism really annoyed me. i mean, i won't go acting like i'm some righteous political correct liberal, but also the impracticality of their plan annoyed me, as well as the fact that they could even think that all muslims are terrorists.
basically everything, about everything, they said was the epitome of stupidity and ignorance. i really didn't know anyone could be that stupid. i felt even worse because i couldn't yell at them and tell them they were idiots. my mom would have gotten mad or something.
and i would have been called rude. and i just don't have the will to do stuff. i started wondering how someone could have become so stupid.
also, i hate jews.
the people talking were old, like adults. if i saw someone from my school say stuff like that i wouldn't be as surprised. except they were probably 30 or 40 years old, i can't really tell. and my computer's potato ed up. END.
-J.

BAD TIMING ON MY PART
As was fully covered last week, Tragedy did announce his karma decision some time after I submitted my column. I can't help it, I suppose, if I have to send these in early(plus, I rather liked what I'd written). Anyway, karma will supposedly be done away with indefinitely; Tragedy claimed that he'd take it away quite early this week, even earlier this week. It vanished at the end of a brief but indefinite period of time. As someone who might have been me might have mentioned, elimination of karma is a decent way to punish people who get their kicks from decreasing that very number.

ZOMGLOL TERRORIST JEW FASCIST PREGNANT REPUBLICAN BIGOT
Got your attention, didn't I? Anyhow, my point is that all manner of controversial terms are being tossed around, whether in matters of actual controversy or merely as if to say "Look, I can toss controversial issues around! I'm so cool and grown-up!". We have J taking her self-loathing to a new level by proclaiming herself firmly opposed to her own Jewish culture, and mentioning terrorists in all possible contexts. Naturally, some Jewish non-terrorists are bothered by this, though no terrorists have spoken up quite yet.
Then there was that argument about whether Erik was a racist Republican idiot, or merely a slightly bothersome Republican lacking debating skills. Also in DDisc, where I suppose controversial issues can be tossed around rather more freely, Calamitas seemed to be advocating getting Bush pregnant to change his stance on abortion, and a couple of not-usually-tasteless onlookers suggested making that into a fanfic. (Maybe some fictional pro-choice terrorists could carry out this impregnation, whose logistics are better not imagined.) While I'm not personally offended(my creator never bothered to give me an interesting ethnic heritage, or any political or religious stances to speak of), I don't think all this is very funny, and I'm sure certain members can do better.
Also, does Triangle Eyes really think that human excrement is amusing? It isn't, and I thought most people old enough to read Lemony Snicket had gotten past that phase.

EVEN FACELESS LURKERS RATHER LIKE ROBERT
A mysterious character named account2(read: apparently J) raised some questions late this week: Does anyone dislike Robert? Why does everyone seem to like him so much? I should note that I think he's fairly entertaining; many times I have chronicled his epic battles with... really un-cool members of a stereotypically newbie-like persuasion. Robert also seems to be immune to any sort of extended banning, meaning that he's very skilled at either changing his IP or sweet-talking Tragedy. However, I still think the Neo-Nazi thing is a bit overdone around here, and maybe he should be a Stalinist or something for a while.

after lollapalooza we spent a day wandering around chicago and booking stuff for the next few days
a plane to new york
no
wait
newark
yes
a plane to newark and a hotel there and we spent two days training out to new york from there,
then two days wandering around new york
there was a hungry jacks and a quiznos near our hotel so that was food for the night
also it was the only hotel with a proper breakfast
bacon eggs etc etc etc, instead of freaking bagels and donuts
new york the first day, we wandered a lot, found places, chinatown, and found Tower Records, and spent way too much m0oneys there
and other stuff not important
second day we wandered the other way, stopping at McDonalds and then when we left there it was raining like your mother,.
wandered more north and sat in central park for a bit, then went south, sat in a bar and had beers and pizza
south again to the place where we saw SPAMALOT, which was kinda ffunny, however half of it was shamelessly stolen from original monty python and the other half was slightly too americanised humour(ie not funny) but enjoyable none te less
next day plane stopped breifly in pittsburg on it's way to lax california airport
least good hotel so far, doesn't even have that comedy central channel, at lerast it has HBO tho
main dillemas cseem to be which fast food place are we going to for our meals.
at least this is the first place with (a slightly long walk to) a decent internet cafe...fksdfsdk
yesterday we spent 3 hours at the airport, 2 waiting in line and 1 waiting for our tickets for the trip to chicago to be done
because we need to be in chicago to get back home
i had a quad stacker burger last night, it was delicious

Due to whatever reasons*, Jemima has stopped publishing unadvice problems for The 667er, and will no longer continue this column unless readers otherwise disagree.
*Either nobody takes the time to send Jemima problems anymore, or it's finally happened: the world has started to live by world peace, and there is no more corruption and disagreement in the world so that no one has problems anymore.
We happen to have one more edition of Jemima's How To! this week though, so here it is.
This week on Jemima's How To!:
How To Get Unadvice Problems from People!
Step 1: Ask people if they have a problem.
Step 2: Beg people for a problem they might have if they don't give you a problem when you asked politely.
Step 3: If people happen to not have a problem, create one by yourself by wreaking havoc on them and their families.
Step 4: Once you have gotten problems, think up a funny way of how not to solve their problem, or think of a witty way to answer it morally correctly.
Step 5: Smile at the positive feedback you get, and frown at the negative and mean feedback you might get. Of course, Jem's cheexy, so she won't ever get bad comments since she does everything so well when she hands out [un]advice to people.

'Tis The Season To Be Spoiled
by Sixteen
It's that time of year again. We have been officially warned against spoiling anything from TBL or TE. Now that The Beatrice Letters is less than three weeks away, there are bound to be some spoilers beforehand. We even have some for The End already. The (alleged, I must say) first few pages of the book have been posted on two websites. I can't say what they contain, for those who don't want to know, but all I will say is that there is a collective eyebrow being raised. Many people are suspicious of the pages' authenticity. And as Dupin has said from experience, library websites aren't the most reliable sources, as most of them posted his fanfic Book Twelve as the official first chapter.
Barnes and Noble have released some interesting TE-related videos. One is a promotion for The End. Daniel Handler is "representing" Lemony Snicket and warns us yet again not to read any book in A Series of Unfortunate Events, including (by name) The End. It's a very funny video and can be found in the Official Thread. The other video is an interview with Handler, which doesn't reveal anything new but is interesting nonetheless.
TE will end "unhappily ever after" according to Susan Rich, the editor. Personally, I'm thrilled. We've been told throughout that the Baudelaire story has no happy beginning, middle or end. While I pity the orphans for what they've gone through, I think that an "everything's okay now" ending would go against all of Mr Handler's beliefs. Not everyone is content with that, though. Ambiguity is all well and good, but I really would like some more misery. I sound sadistic now. I hope you know what I mean.
BookBlast is back. We were pointed towards the Shocking Secrets yet again. Maybe there's something we're not seeing in there. There was one for TBL as well, but nothing in it was particularly surprising. Enjoy the next few weeks until TBL finally appears, and remember not to post spoilers!

Welcome to Jem's Random Article, the column where Jemima talks about anything that happens to be on her mind. This week, the topic is:
JEMIMA'S VOICE.
Thinking about Jemima's voice, you might right-off-the-bat think of the member Jemima's voice. But what I'm going to discuss is the voice of the Jellicle in the Cats video, and elsewhere.
And also mine. Psych!
Whenever I watch the video for Cats and hear Jemima's voice, I always start praising how beautifully Veerle Casteleyn sings, and wishing I could sing like that, and then start to sing like that while the video continues to play. I also go into a trancelike state, since hearing her is so mesmerizing to me. I always looked up to Veerle and her singing, but searching the internet one night I found out some sad information:
That's not Veerle singing in the video! It's Helen Massie! Why did they dub Veerle and put another voice in instead? Well, because Veerle is Dutch, and when they filmed the video, her English wasn't so fantastic for understanding. So the only choice was to replace Casteleyn with Massie.
Helen has a very lovely voice, but the thing is is that I've never even seen her in other things! I'd like to see the person singing instead of someone else who couldn't sing it and all that. Now whenever I see Jemima on the tape, I always think it's Veerle doing the work and not Helen. And then I go back to my meditative state after that. So not much really changes, but I always wonder what Ms. Massie looks like and what else she might do in life.
On Cats tours, I always take careful note to listen to whoever is taking the role of Sillabub. (For some odd reason, Jemima turns into Sillabub when they are on live production and Sillabub is Jemima when she's in the video or in Japan. It's very confusing and sometimes I'd wish they'd just stick with Jemima the whole time. Oh well, I still like it.) And some will be good, and some will be bad. Boy, this last actress's singing I saw and heard was BAD. Okay, not bad, but it's wasn't great, either. STILL. I was heartbroken they the casting director had casted this bad voice for the loving Sillabub, and I was so sad! Plus, they had really bad technical difficulties going on during the show, and they had to stop it for about half an hour to fix it all. That was very upsetting.
But dispite Sillabub's voice and an interrupted show, I loved it anyway because Cats will always be my favorite musical unless Andrew Lloyd Webber and T.S. Elliot pair up again to make some other amazing Broadway musical (which is highly unlikely, since Mr. Elliot has been.... gone... for some time).
And now we come to what you've all been waiting for:
JEMIMA, THE MEMBER'S, VOICE.
Since you've all been anticipating to hear it for so long, I'll give you a clip of me, Jemima, singing as Jemima from some lyrics Jemima sings in the video.
Memory. Turn your face to the moonlight.
And now for my real talking voice. I'll be reciting The Naming of Cats for you, just so you know how to name a cat.
The naming of cats is a difficult matter.
And so! Whenever you hear Jemima the Jellicle's voice, you should think about how great one's voice can be, or not as great as usual or expected.
Whenever you hear Jemima the member's voice, well, that's pretty darn cool because she took the time to put it up on the internet and because she had fun doing it.
-Jemima.

Once again, the mysterious board 60023101 has appeared. The only difference this time is that it is at the top of the Ruefully Restricted board. Otherwise, it is exactly the same. No posts, no topics to post in, no description. Nothing has yet happened, but this reporter expects something to happen in the near future. But who knows, it might go just as fast as it came, as it did last time.

First off, happy birthday SnicketFace! Hope you have a great one. (:
Secondly, jtb left, which is rather sad. He was a bit eager to fit in, sure, but he wasn’t all that bad. He became quite a good member in the summer; I remember even Robert complimented him once, on some smackdown or something. Ah, yes, EDWin Group. Hehe. And his stories, ASoUE or otherwise, were great. He wanted to write a column once; I think he would’ve made an exellent columnist, but he had some personal problems, which stopped him from writing his column. We miss you, jtb. You said you’d continue coming occasionally, and reading The 667er. I hope you read this, and I hope you decide to come back sometime in the near future. His name is now ‘Jtb is back FOR A LITTLE WHILE’. Let’s hope that little while lengthens.
Ann seems to have either been un-banned or got past proboards’ banhammer. Either way, she’s changed her name to ‘Banntastic’, so yzay. One wonders where Kate is, though. Where there’s Ann, there’s usually Kate…
60023101 has returned. I suppose it must have a purpose, because they wouldn’t glitch twice. Would they? Nah, too tired to create drama right now. Anyway, we’ll keep you updated with any info we get on it.
Regarding the Midweek News Report, or MNR, I’ve decided to stop regular publication of it, and to only publish it when there is actually major news to report. So that’s that. And I’m done now. This was quite a short issue, but I think it was, overall, a good one. Hope you liked it.
Peace out,
Akbar.
