Chapter 1
The night was dark. The moon was barely out. The house had been empty except for one lone girl. The house was isolated from others. It looked very neat and clean. Colorful flowers lined the house. In the backyard, there was a nice swing hung over the big tree there.
The phone rang. A blond girl of about 18 went to go get the phone. Her short hair just stopped before the end of her chin. She was wearing a cream colored sweater and some faded blue jeans.
" Hello," she said.
" Hello," a man's voice said. She didn't recognize the voice.
" Yes?" She said hoping for some indication of who he was.
" Who is this?" He answered.
" Who are you trying to reach?" She was ready to hang up the phone.
" What number is this"
"What number are you trying to reach?"
" I don't know," He said. " I must have the wrong number, sorry."
" It happens. Bye." She hung up the phone and was ready to go back to making popcorn for the movie she was going to watch. The phone rang again. She answered.
" Hello?" She answered in an annoyed tone.
" I guess I dialed the wrong number." It was the man again.
" Then why did you call again?"
" To make sure you knew I was sorry."
She smirked. " You're forgiven. Bye."
" No, don't hang up. I want to talk."
" Call a 900 number or something. See ya." She hung up and went into the kitchen.
She had put the Jiffy Pop on the stove and turned on the gas when the phone rang again. She groaned and picked it up.
" Hello?"
" Why don't you want to talk to me?"
" Who are you; what's your name?"
" You tell me yours, I'll tell you mine."
" Don't think so." She went to the popcorn and shook it. The noise was heard by the man.
He asked. " What's that noise?"
" Popcorn."
" I only eat popcorn at the movies."
" I'm watching a video."
" Ooh, what kind." She didn't know why he was so interested, but she told him.
" A scary movie."
" Oh, what's your favorite."
" 'Halloween', the one where the guy stalks babysitters. What's yours?" Now she would ask questions.
" I like Nightmare on Elm Street."
" Yeah, I liked it too. The rest of them sucked though."
" You never told me your name."
" Why do you want to no my name?"
" I want to know who I'm looking at."
She stopped dead in her pacing back and forth. She looked through the glass doors at the back of the house. The backyard was seemingly empty.
" I gotta go."
" Don't hang up on me!" The voice was stern and mad. She didn't care though. She hung up anyway.
The phone rang again. Now she was scared. Her eyes were tearing.
" Hello."
" I told you not to hang up."
" What do you want?"
" To talk."
" Dial someone else, okay." She had a sense of pleading in her voice. She hung up again.
She went into the kitchen. The popcorn was smoking. She went to take it off when the phone rang again. Now she would show she's mad.
She answered. " Listen, asshole!"
" No, you listen you little magee! Hang up and I will gut you like a fish." He chuckled.
" Is this a joke."
" No, a game really. Can you handle that... blondie?"
She ran to all the doors and locked them. Looking out the front door's window, she heard him say through the phone:
" Can you see me?"
" Listen, I am about three seconds away from calling the police." She was crying.
" They'd never make it in time."
" What do you want?"
" To see what your insides look like." He said it seriously and maliciously.
She cried some more and hung up. The doorbell rang and she screamed.
" Who's there?..... Who's there?" she said scared. " I'm calling the police."
She went to get the phone and it rang in her hands. She screamed and answered.
The caller said " You should never say who's there, it's a death wish. You might as well investigate a strange noise or something."
" Look you've had your fun. Now leave or else."
" Or else what?"
" My boyfriend's coming and he'll beat the living daylights out of you."
" Ooooh, I'm scared." He said mockingly. " His name wouldn't be Sam, would it?"
" How do you know what his name is?"
" Turn on the patio lights."
She started crying and went to turn them on. She saw Sam tied to a chair. He had sustained some wounds. He screamed when he saw her. She went to open the door.
The caller warned. " I wouldn't do that if I was you."
" Why are you doing this?"
" I want to play a game."
" No," she whispered.
" Then, he dies right now."
" No!, No!"
" Then, go inside, turn the lights off and play."
" Ok."
Sam muffled screams echoed. " No, J. No, J!"
She turned off the lights outside.
" Alright, the game is trivia. If you get it right, he lives. If you get it wrong, he dies. Now here's the question. Name the killer in Friday the 13th."
" Jason, Jason!" She screamed.
" Sorry, that's the wrong answer. Jason's mother was the killer in the original. Sorry, Sam's gone."
" No!!!"
She looked outside and turned the lights on. Sam groaned as someone cut into his stomach. She could see his guts hanging out. His head went back.
" Final question, What door am I at?"
" I'm not doing this."
" Your call." The patio door was broken when he threw a chair through it. She ran into the kitchen and picked up a butcher knife. The popcorn was burning. She didn't care. She ran outside the kitchen window and hid. She looked in.
A man in black robes and a Halloween mask was in the kitchen. He was running around looking. She turned and saw her parents driving along the road. If she could just get to them, she'd be saved. She turned back and saw him. He pulled through the glass at her, breaking it. She hit him on the head with the phone.
She ran to her parent's arriving car. She saw Sam and shuddered. The man jumped out and pushed her to the floor. She ran and he caught up, stabbing her near her left shoulder. She fell. He went on top of her and she fought away from him. He stabbed her and then started to choke her. J kicked him in between his legs and tried to crawl to her parents. She could barely talk. She tried to say " Mom!", but couldn't.
Her parents were talking when they smelled smoke. They ran inside. Her mom took the burning popcorn and put it in the sink and washed it.
" J!, J!, J!" Her mother called.
Her father said. " Call the police."
She ran to the phone and picked it up to dial. She could hear her daughters moans. The killer heard it, and hung the phone up.
The father said. " Quick, let's go to the McKenzie's"
They went out the door and a horrible scream erupted into the night. It was that of J's mother and it was caused by the horror when she saw her gutted and hung from the tree in the backyard.
