I figured it would have to be pretty distant, since Aragorn is 2500 generations down from Elrond. Certainly enough to make him and Arwen non-icky. There's a nice chart to explain how all the hobbits are related, but no such luck for the elves. I only read the Hobbit and LoTR so things like Elrond's half human brother having mortal children is confusing to me. Was there a particular branch of the numenors who decided to be evil and join Sauron, or are they some other ancient and noble race? How do Berin and his beloved (who's name I'm not sure of) fit in? Are Elbereth and Gilthoniel(sp?) a member of the "family" or high elves? Does the Berin who fell in love with an elf have any relation to the Bear-man in the Hobbit? Oh, and as long as I'm being obscure, does the Silmarillion have anything to lend credence to the theory the Durin never died?

Elrond's brother is Elros who was the first king of Numenor.

Beren's wife was Luthien.
Elros and Elrond were half elves. After the War of Wrath, Manwe granted Elrond the gift of immotratlity, but Elros chose to stay a man.
In the Silmarillion, most of the Numenoreans were drowned at sea by Manwe because they wanted to start a war against him. The faithful, led by elendil, Isuldur's father, escaped to Middle-Earth, where they became known as the Dunedain.
Beren most likely is no relation to Buorn.
