Or not. To be honest, I think Beatrice's letter/novel was probably highly contextual and concerned mainly with the mythology of the series, whereas Why We Broke Up is probably more universal in its concerns.

I don't think Beatrice's letter was that motivated by details related to the mythology/plot of the series. Ishmael claimed he never came to understood why she broke up with Lemony, and he was pretty well informed about VFD (besides, he even had access to Beatrice's "diary" entries). She probably had very complicated feelings. ...And yeah, maybe one of Handler's past girlfriends broke up with him that way... But maybe he broke up with someone by writing them a letter ! ;D

I thought the new series was being published by Little Brown, not HarperCollins? arts.nationalpost.com/2010/06/11/4559/ : "The elusive Lemony Snicket, also known as Daniel Handler, has signed a deal with HarperCollins Canada to follow up his last bestselling series, A Series of Unfortunate Events. His new series will include four hardcover tomes, and the first will be released in 2012."

It specifies HarperCollins Canada, so I would guess that they're the Canadian distributor rather than the U.S. distributor. Yeah, because the article you linked is from a Canadian news site. That figures.

Interesting, nevertheless; it shows he isn't actually boycotting HarperCollins because of the Ruth Dercroump factor, as seemed possible.

I just realised that the UK paperback editions of THH and TCC were released earlier this month. Oops! I have to go into town next Wednesday, so I'll look for them then. I'm not expecting anything exciting.

I just realised that the UK paperback editions of THH and TCC were released earlier this month. Oops! I have to go into town next Wednesday, so I'll look for them then. I'm not expecting anything exciting. Okay, not only am I no longer going into town tomorrow, but apparently I can't even remember what month it is either, as it's actually early next month that these books are released. Wow I really dropped the ball on this one. I keep on thinking it's July when it's still June. The paperback of The End has been listed for October, anyway; it'll be out almost exactly four years after its original paper-over-board publication. So yeah basically this is a post to say that nothing interesting whatsoever is happening.

Okay, now I have the Egmont paperbacks of THH and TCC. ...But there's nothing remarkable about them.

Quadruple post hextravaganza. An Amazon.com synopsis has revealed the eponymous 13 words that will be detailed in the upcoming Snicket/Kalman collaboration, 13 Words. Read those thirteen words here: 13 WordsHow many did you guess?! Also, I'll be getting the new UK paperback editions of TSS through TPP in a week or so. Don't get excited.

Will the next Series be darker than the Baudelaire ballad? I have a feeling it'll be as dark and gritty as Mafia or Grand Theft Auto, but not that much.

Will the next Series be darker than the Baudelaire ballad? I have a feeling it'll be as dark and gritty as Mafia or Grand Theft Auto, but not that much. A sort of 50s gangster style, you think, with drive-by machine gunnings and even more trenchcoats and fedoras? I think that might be pushing it a little. In other news, I've just acquired the Egmont paperbacks for TSS through TPP, and wow, they feel enormous. Objectively, they aren't, but you can really tell how much heavier they are than the early books.

Wikipedia says the new series will be darker, but I'm not sure what the source for that is. One might well think ASOUE is dark enough.

Does the new series involve vampires? lol Jokes aside, if the new series is darker than ASoUE, one might wonder just exactly how much darker it will be.

Wikipedia says the new series will be darker, but I'm not sure what the source for that is. Oh does it now? Pfft. Let me take a look at that. ...Right, I've tracked the edit down to 17th January this year, the sole edit of a single person who added the first note about Snicket's new series to the article. There is no source or supporting statement. I am removing it. As an aside, we knew about the new series months before that.

Wait I heard or read that somewhere too... I think he said something about he thinks all the original readers of ASOUE would be all grown up now and he wanted to re-appeal to them by making it more dark and adult-like in what it deals with.
