I'm surprised nobody's been commenting on this story more, so I'll do it myself.
A couple quick questions/reflections:
I vaguely remember someone saying a while ago a collab fanfic like this has been done on 667 before. Does anyone have the link?
What gave you the inspiration to end the story in such an unsettling and self-referential way?
What would you have done if the readers had taken different options after each chapter? Did you already have a plan and did our selection of certain options mess with it?

I'm surprised nobody's been commenting on this story more, so I'll do it myself. Thank you for your interest. The most recent I'm aware of would be 667's Exquisite Corpse, which may well be what you are thinking of, but the time was that many a collaborative fic was attempted, some of which were looser in form than others; 667 Hogwarts I recall having a number of tangential threads of that sort. My favourite, and for me perhaps the prototypical collaborative 667 story, would be 667 Hell: ADR's Revenge, which I enjoyed enough to privately begin and eventually conclude a parallel storyline branching off from early on in the narrative. To be clear, when discussing my decision to "end" the story in this manner, it must be understood that it's as much "continue" as "end," for this is the conclusion I had in mind since resuming the story from its midway point. But as to why I picked this direction, I had a couple of motivations. One was that I felt that, if I was to write the entire rest of the story, it should be the kind of story that only I could write, rather than something perhaps more natural. But my other motive was that it felt... disingenuous to ignore the story of the story itself; to brush over the years of hiatus as if they had never happened, to ignore the fact that the storyline had switched from being collaborative to being solely determined by me (and more on that in a moment). I mulled over a few ideas in that line - such as jumping forwards to Chapter Fourteen and having the ship crash on the island's coastal shelf - but in the end, the idea of reflecting on the story's nature as an unevenly-written fanfic was the one I felt most inspired to write. I thought it would add a suitable amount of intrigue whilst also reflecting the way in which the story had been written. In that respect, I was pleased to be able to pick up and resolve a number of as-yet-unused plot points, such as the eyepatch, the snake oil, the bomb. The hidden irony of the choices was that you never had a choice. The entire story was already finished before I even posted Chapter Eight. I wrote out both possibilities for each choice.

Thank you for your insightful answers, Dante! I was actually thinking of another 667 collab fic that was also written as a "lost volume" in the ASOUE series, but on second thought, it may not even have been a collab fic at all. It may have been linked in this thread, but I can't seem to find it. I don't remember the title, but I believe it involved the Baudelaires being dropped off at a town of some sort Olaf appearing in an Uncle Sam disguise, and a To My Kind Editor letter that was written by Snicket while being trapped inside a car trunk... though this may have been just some wild fever dream I had. This story, and your insights, Dante, were fascinating!!! I know I was late to the game and commented infrequently, but thank you for taking on this abandoned project!!!

That sounds like my own The Treasonous Tea-Party, a sensational and deliberately scandalous work which occupies more than its fair share of this thread. One of my many stories not originally written for public consumption.

I want to see the possibility you wrote out for "tell them everything". And wasn't this meant to be *between* TPP and The End? If so, how does the ending of this story connect to The End?

I want to see the possibility you wrote out for "tell them everything". That was one of the less substantial choices; the alternative version is just Charlotte, Emily and Anne beginning to tell the Baudelaires everything before Stanton interrupts and takes over like he did anyway. Some of the other choices amounted to several pages of difference, though. In the end, the story ended up taking place at exactly the same time as The End - or possibly with no chronological relationship to the world of ASoUE at all.
