Before kicking off this year's nominations for 667's infamous and most anticipated Darkies Awards, I thought it might be fun to follow up on an idea that was suggested last year. While the Darkies is best known for its thirteen exceptional categories, I am curious to know if anyone would be interested in seeing some new ones this year. However, if you guys prefer to keep things the way they are, then worry not. While I'm the type who's fond of routine, I felt it would be nice to see what everyone else's thoughts are. Feel free to state your honest opinions and swap ideas. You can post them here, or PM me, if you'd prefer. We have until next Friday to discuss and decide. If by the end we've concluded there are to be some new categories, then I'll create a poll.

I was wondering then the first Darkies discussions would begin. Right now nothing occurs to me but I think new categories should be interesting, although just the traditional thirteen is fine by me.

I remember things got rolling in April last year, so I thought why not keep things the same this time around? Since we have a week, I figure that's plenty of time for those who like the idea to suggest some new categories. Even just two or three would be welcome.

What about best avatar? Or best signature?

What about best avatar? Or best signature? Best profile decoration, perhaps, which would combine avatar, signature, texts, and location?

I like the idea of making the avatar, signature, texts, and location all part of the same category. I'll make a note, then, if and when more people get involved, I'll incorporate this and other suggestions into my first post. Hehe. That's a possibility. ;D Reason for Editing: Felt it necessary to reword a few things.

I like things as they are. But if a profile stylisation category came to exist, I think Nominatissima would certainly win :-) .

Would the categories be replaced, or would additions be added to the existing awards after a vote? Having more than thirteen awards would likely cause clutter as well as lose the Snicket parallel, but on the other hand I'm not sure how one would determine which award categories to cut.

Yes, since there can only be thirteen categories, it's necessary to omit some of the existing ones. I intended to include this in my first post, which I wrote last night in Notepad, so I could post it first thing this morning. But I guess I must not have selected it, when I went to copy/paste everything into the thread message. Anyway, here is a list of some of the categories that should be kept: -Best New Member -Most Unfortunate -Funniest Member -Best Story -Best Writer -Best Artist Certainly there are others that should remain, too, even if it means ending up with just two or three new categories. These are just the first ones that came to mind, when I was deciding whose presence would be considered most essential. *Edit* Yes, thank you, Brunch. I was still typing my reply to Sherry Ann, when CV posted.

At one time I would have suggested dividing Best Story into Best Fanfic and Best 667fic - but we rarely get 667fics nowadays (I can only think of one this year) so it probably wouldn't be worth it.
Ones that might be left out: I'd suggest - Most consistent (never quite sure what the criteria for that are) - Most improved (sounds rather like a school thing. And I think one year the same person got most consistent and most improved, which seems odd to me, as if the criteria weren't working perfectly.) - And possibly most notorious? That works fine when we have people around who enjoy being notorious, as we have sometimes had in the past, but less so otherwise.

Most consistent, as I understand it, translates to most active. If that is the case, I think it's a legitimate award - perhaps the name could be tweaked, to remove ambiguity? Most notorious and most improved, though, I agree; the former's goal has always somewhat eluded me. I've also wondered before exactly what we're looking for in a Best Thread.

Yeah, 667 fics don't seem to be around as much as they were a few years ago. I know there's talk of possibly doing one in celebration of 667's 10th Anniversary, so that's another reason to keep the Best Story title. I remember it being described as someone who makes the most relevant and frequent contributions. I agree that it probably wouldn't hurt to drop it. Really? Weird! I don't exactly remember that, but yes, that is rather an odd twist there. Exactly. That's the one award I've always had mixed emotions about, because the last thing I'd want is for anybody to get their feelings hurt unintentionally.

One wonders if we should be voting on it in that case, though - couldn't it be determined by counting posts? One might suppose it fits the theme of the board by honouring villains. The problem is that there isn't always a suitable villain available. Well, it allows us to honour contributions that aren't fiction, art, or Snicketology, I suppose. Some of the winners have been deserving. Still, it's true that the class rather lacks unity, and it's not always clear what would deserve an award in this area.
