Does this one count?
So I had a penpal online she was kind and polite, always took intrest in what I had to say but one day we agreed to take a 2 year break with no contact. we were both equally frustrated that we wouldn't meet anytime soon and believe you dont truly know someone until youve met.
anyway i got a new penpal pretty much but she showed a lot of bad attitude too many examples to list!
it reminds me of theodoras current and former apprentices.
because my original penpal never would have spoken to me like that other girl has...

I think that counts; the change in attitude is just as hard to deal with as it would be for Theodora! But does that imply that your new penpal is just as clever and resourceful as the last underneath that attitude?

well im sure she has her uses, the things i can appreciate about her just like lemony has. maybe in both cases it was just too easy to focus on the bad bits at those times

I've recently been watching an old movie serial about a heroic newspaper editor who, inspired by a buzzing creature, masquerades as a masked gangster to clean up his corrupt city.

When someone knocked on the door one day at 11PM, I asked myself "who could that be at this hour?".

Yes, and why not.

The hawthorne heights song "ghost town" reminds me of the town as described when introduced in the first book.

Not so much a coincidence, but I didn't want to start a whole new thread for this. I noticed there was a show on called "What Could Possibly Go Wrong?", and figured that would've been a brilliant Wrong Question.

That would have made a fantastic title.

I just watched the movie Prometheus for the first time (a stunning movie, in my opinion), and a piece of dialogue somewhere in the first half went something like "What would you do to achieve your goals?" "Anything and everything." I'm seriously in doubt whether this might be a reference, or a case of creative convergent evolution. The movie is from May 2012, and WCTBATH is from October of that same year. That's very recent compared to most of Snicket's references (he probably had the whole book down by the movie's release), so I'm leaning mostly towards calling it a coincidence. Which is why I'm putting it here, and not browsing through the reference guide for it - still, I always like to think there's some subtle connection between things I like.

I've been reading a French book portraying hypothetical future animals, and it mentions terrestrial algae. Also one of the featured creatures is a giant marine tadpole that grows to the size of a whale (it never morphs into a frog).

Not totally a coincidence, but I just read Dino Buzzati's Poem Strip (a psychedelic re-telling of the myth of Orpheus), my decision to do so influenced by Daniel Handler noting Buzzati as an influence ('The Bears' Invasion of Sicily'), and I came upon a passage that reminded me of All The Wrong Questions (esp. the poem that was sent out via ?1 promo emails):
The beginning of the book also has a kind of 29 Myths on the Swinster Pharmacy vibe.

I recently aquired a two-piece suit. It's slightly too big for me, making me seem a bit like a child, but it's really comfortable. I just realised today, wondering whether I should wear the top part as a blazer this afternoon, that it pretty much matches Seth's illustrations of Lemony's suits (although bigger). It's a sort of pale green colour, reminiscent of WW1 uniforms, that I can imagine his suit being. I already have a somewhat Snicket-y hat, so if it wasn't for my beard, I could probably cosplay as Lemony Snicket.
