A more wrathful version of Hermes, who I imagine is actually quite satisfied. Except maybe for envelope envy. Even Hermes couldn't own that sort of envelope. You'll see - I believe Hermes has his ways of finding out Dante's whereabouts - he left quite a few clues - and stealing the envelope under the cover of darkness. I wouldn't put it past him - as you see, he's only pretending that he's an elderly teacher to ward off our suspicions. Wait, here's a theory - maybe the prophecy was correct, and Dante was stoned to death by his copies of TBB? Elderly teachers can be very shifty. I suppose Dante is at less risk not being in America when the TBBs fall - unless Hermes is going to kidnap him and fly over there.

We've both forgotten about Dante's trope of rigorously trained marmosets that guard him from all non-zookeepers. I still wouldn't put it past Hermes to get past them.

You underestimate me. Before long I won't need my walking cane and hearing trumpet any more. Becoming Burdensome Books moderator is simply the first step in my plan; soon, I will be Dante.

In that case, I assume that your latest assassination attempt succeeded, and that is the reason for Dante's absense. Right?

I've opted for a different stratagem: Hypnosis. If I've succeeded, Dante won't even know himself any more. I will be the only one of us left.

Hello, all. I've returned to celebrate the anniversary. Now what's this about hypnotizing Dante?

A worthy cause - Dante has been the reigning dictator for so long, he's starting to get power mad. Oh, and be careful of the marmosets, and the fire devil, although the latter will be easily dealt with if you feed it enough Toblerone.

Hello, all. I've returned to celebrate the anniversary. Now what's this about hypnotizing Dante? 'Nora - I'm afraid that the Dante you once knew is no more. He's raving mad, and Hermes is plotting a plan to get rid of him once and for all.

Oh, dear. I told him to escape with me when I fled 667 years ago, but he refused ... and now he's about to pay the price. What can we do?

There's not much we can do, I'm afraid, besides hypnotism, which is what Hermes is planning. The shock of seeing you will be likely to cause Dante to self-combust, so perhaps we could recruit someone else - Ennui, perhaps.

Will not the shock of Ennui trigger the same reaction? No, we need weapons. Anyone prepared to overthrow this tyrant, follow me to 667's arsenal. Usually you'd need a key to open it, but I can use my Holistic Detective skills to pick the lock. Onward!

Ennui - he is skilled with the sword, and Dante's only worthy opponent other than Hermes. But Hermes is aging, so I thought that Ennui would be more appropriate. Oh well - Onward!
