It boggles my mind that any soft drink could ever, ever be anymore ubiquitous than Coca Cola. Also, according to this quiz I have a Midland American accent, but with a slight southern tinge. This is more or less accurate.

I'm from the North-east, apparently, with the most likely place being Philadelphia. (I'm actually from 'England and sound totally English.)
I was particularly puzzled by the last question - where do they pronounce 'bag' to rhyme with 'vague'?

I was particularly puzzled by the last question - where do they pronounce 'bag' to rhyme with 'vague'? Saying it aloud a few times, I can see how a southerner might pronounce those two the same; you have to sort of draw out the long A. I'm not sure I would recognize the word out of context.

Irn Bru isn't bad, but no where here sells it.
We do sell the Iron Brew WKD flavour, which is an alcopop but it's not bad. I'll stick with cider tho thanks.

I was particularly puzzled by the last question - where do they pronounce 'bag' to rhyme with 'vague'? Whe I read that question I thought I had always pronounced 'vague' wrong because it sounds really not like a rhyme.

I was wondering if the problem was different pronunciations of 'vague', but on reflection I realise there is a southern US accent which sounds a bit like 'bay-ag', so I guess it's possible.

I'm curious about the apparently different pronunciations of Mary/marry/merry.

Appears I'm a plain midlander according to the test. And it thinks I'm from Pennsylvania which is VERY untrue. On a plus side, it says I have a good voice for TV and radio. Which is true of course. I've had people tell me I sound like an audiobook narrator when I read things. That and a radio announcer.

Apparently, I'm from the Northeast. Right. My accent has usually been analysed as being Australian/British sounding.

I'd like to be able to speak with a Brooklyn accent, as horrible as some people might think they sound, but unfortunately I'm stuck with a tasteless Midland (also known as "lack of any accent whatsoever, you poor sod") accent with occasional southern twangs creeping in when they can. The price one pays for living in a large city and then moving south.
