My accents are, in English: 1. American(a quiz link from the last page says its Boston-ish.) 2. British(but I've rarely used this one.) 3. Singlish/Singaporean English (almost always.) In Indonesian, my accent is Javanese.

Im pretty good at accents....Russian, British, Indian, Southern, French...Im working on my Maine accent now though, thanks to reading Stephen King. As far as having a kind of portfolio of accents goes, that's definitely something I love doing. When I walk into a store, or call some random business for some reason, or buy a train or theatre ticket, I select from the touch-screen menu in my head, just for the fun of it. Toffee British; Yorkshire; "typical" American (the kind actors seemed to be trained to speak with); or strong Australian (without the British trace mine usually has). Plus, I've usually got a few accents in the works at any one time. Right now I'm trying to decide whether to embark on developing a Scottish or a New Zealand accent. Any suggestions?

You should learn that Optus salesman accent just for prank calls.

The quiz thinks I'm from the west coast and that most people think I don't have any accent. The latter is true, but the former is totally false. xD

You should learn that Optus salesman accent just for prank calls. ;D That would come under the heading of "voice mimicry" - something else I love doing. For instance, I memorise a movie scene's dialog and imitate it. Or I mimic the voice of someone I know (like my father saying "what's up, mate?" on the phone). Right now I'm trying to decide whether to embark on developing a Scottish or a New Zealand accent. Any suggestions? Scottish is great. Yeah, I've been leaning toward it.

According to the accent quiz on the last page, it says I sound like I'm from the Inland North, which is true, since I'm from Wisconsin.

Boo. Here I am. And now I will give you too much information.
When I was in 2nd grade, I heard Jim Dale's rendition of the third Harry Potter book and thought "Why do I talk anyway other than how this brilliant man speaks?' After that, I started to make an effort to speak differently. Before then, I had a really, really, really awful southern American accent, but it didn't really matter because that's how everyone in Waycross, Georgia sounds.
By third grade, I had eliminated my accent...but because of that...I don't really have 'a voice'.
Let me explain: Since then, I've been really 'unconsciously' self-concious of my voice. If I'm trying to make a really good impression, I concentrate on speaking really clearly and lowering my tone. If I'm speaking in front of my friends just out and about, I find myself slurring words and speaking a little southern. If I'm speaking to people I just met or if I'm being put on the spot, my voice is higher-pitched and lispy. Those are the situations I know about and can kind of control now, but there are many others. Point is: I can't tell if I have an accent and I can't really figure out what my natural speaking voice is.
Maybe performing in My Fair Lady in 10th grade ruined my life. I'll post a video or something later and have you all judge for yourselves.

Waycross is incredibly close to where I live, Snicket. I completely understand what you mean. My mother grew up in Georgia and moved to New York City after college, and I think both her and my father (from Richmond, Virginia) made a serious effort to eliminate their accents. Especially my father. My mother will slip into a southern accent occasionally when she's around her friends from college. And I understand about wanting to speak differently too. I think some forms of Southern accents can be nice but my Lord, some of the people who live around us...
I'm sure it's not as bad as you make it out to be, however. I'd be willing to give the video a watch if you do post it.

I wonder if my accent is really stronger when the people around me have a different accent or no accent at all or if I only think so because it's stronger compared to the others.

I took the quiz on the previous page, it says I've got a West American accent. Proof that we Filipinos sound like Californians when we speak English.

Maybe I will have an British accent after this school year because the woman who teaches English at the school where I'm doing my voluntary social work year (I don't know how to call it because I think it doesn't exist in English, this is a literal translation...) is from England, and she will probably be the only person I talk to in English.

I'm from Southern Mississippi, so you can pretty well guess my accent (iffin ya try real hard - just kidding). My mom's partner has family in Northern Mississippi (Tupelo area), and last year, when they were up in Wisconsin, after a few hours, I started speaking kind of like them.
