It's not strange at all. A good character is supposed to be relatable. A lot of people have a bond with at least one person (doesn't necessarily have to be a parent) that they would do "anything and everything" to get back, if they were to lose them.

Of course you're not crazy. I agree with Aqua, characters are inspired by real life. And I'm really sorry about your loss as well.
