It's certainly a more cautious campaign than last year, but on the other hand, last year they really needed to hype Snicket's return to awaken his slumbering household name status. In addition, they released I think too many preview chapters last year, and one rather gets the impression they got a bit desperate for Snicketmails when they started using captions and illustrations which, whilst respectable, weren't in the book. So they're playing their cards closer to their chest, certainly. I'd really keep my eye on June, though - that's when we got Chapter One and the Egmont edition cover last year.

But aren't all those extra things that were sent - e.g. Seth's unused sketches - still be legitimate clues? Even if they are things that were cut from the book and therefore might be misleading, they could still have the possibility of being foreshadowing for the rest of the series. The illustration that's being used as the banner for the forum could lead to many theories about future books. That doesn't seem desperate to me.

I think that some of the sketch illustrations were clearly proposed for the book, but others, such as the typewriter, the suitcases - I'm not so sure. They have their role, but they're a bit more detached.

That's a nice cover, but is it meant to be an eyeball in a jar in the top right? That doesn't seem a very Snicket-y thing to me somehow...

We discussed the identity of said item here, but reached no definite conclusions. One solution suggested was that it could be a leech. (And welcome back!)
