I was skimming through TPP today, and was thinking about how many characters are in it. I then got to thinking that, seeing as we don't know what age Lemony Snicket is at the time of ASoUE, couldn't alot of the adult characters in those novels be around the same age? For the sake of argument, let's assume that most of the adult characters in ASoUE (Unless it's stated otherwise) are around mid 30s-early 40s. With this in mind, which adult characters from ASoUE would you like to see appear in ATWQ? I recall reading that D.H. has said that there will not be an awul lot of overlap from ASoUE, but we've already seen Hector and Kit, so who else do you think would suit the new novels?

I'm not sure, but I think Monty might but in an apperance. Olaf would be a bit to... UE for ATWQ, but I can see a brief cameo from him in ?4. Also, The Sinister Duo would be cool.

Wasn't it implied that Olaf and Snicket were trained alongside one another in V.F.D.? I think it was in the Beatrice Letters, Snicket says something about another boy in his class named O. and gives a description which sounds alot like Olaf. Maybe we'll see him appear in later novels, or maybe the novels won't cover Snicket's entire apprenticeship in V.F.D. - I'd love to see Beatrice appear.

It's been speculated before now that Olaf might be Theodora's previous apprentice, to whom she refers occasionally. Her manner is sometimes rather similar to his.
Regarding ages - it certainly looks as if the Snicket siblings, the Denouement siblings, Beatrice, Olaf and the Duchess were all at school at the same time, so are probably close in age. Monty, who has been studying snakes for forty years, may be rather older. However, it's been suggested that one's level in VFD schooling depends not simply on age but on when one is recruited, in which case Olaf might be quite a bit older than Lemony etc. (as the pictures suggest) and yet in the same class. (Note that Hector is younger than Lemony yet seems to have graduated before him.)
I think it's likely that ATWQ will cover quite a short time in Lemony's life, perhaps just the summer of his first mission. Judging from TBL he went back to school after that. Although he must have met Beatrice already (they met when he was eleven) it seems likely, given the way he interacts with Moxie and Ellington, that they weren't yet particularly close.
Oh, and who would I like to see? Well, Jacques, given we already have Kit. And it might be nice actually to meet the Duchess.

I desperately want Jacques to appear and be a really talented and likeable character so that his undignified death in TVV becomes retrospectively tragic (in much the same way as we must now reappraise Hector). I think there's good reason to hope for this. Other than Jacques, Beatrice and Olaf round out the obvious candidates. As for any others... well, basically any adult during ASoUE would be of the right age to show up in ATWQ, but not necessarily the right circumstance. I suspect that cameos will be sparing and limited to the same sort of brief appearances as Kit and Hector put in.

Personally I'd like to see appearances by the most non-noteworthy characters, like Bruce or Babs.
I also hope that Snicket makes an ambiguous reference to a one-eyebrowed associate, with not enough information to tell whether it's Jacques or Olaf. That would be pretty clever.

I've always defended the view that these minor characters were not members of VFD - one can exaggerate how pervasive it is - so their turning up would be a bit disturbing. But then, I though the same about Hector.
We know that L and B, in their youth, knew Sir, Charles and Nero, so it might be interesting to see them. And of course it would also be interesting to see Ike (who gave L a graduation gift, though whether as a teacher or a fellow-student is not clear).
As for the sinister duo, it is not impossible that Hangfire is the MWABBNH.

I would like to know some more about Gregor Anwhistle seeing as he was only mentioned in TGG. He seems like a very interesting person. I do also think Monty will be in the book, along with 'Haruki' who ever she is... ~Hector

Haruki is probably a male character, incidentally, who is almost certainly named after Haruki Murakami, a favourite author of Handler's.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see a cameo by a largely overlooked, but still constant character in ASoUE: Mr. Poe. Maybe as an asthmatic son of a banker.

Mr Poe? Asthmatic? You, sir, are a genius.

I'm asthmatic and I shore do not cough as much as him. Dose Mr Poe smoke?

Okay how about this for a theory. Poe Senior is Sir. Anyhow, I don't think it ever says he does. I really like the idea that he's asthmatic though

TBB actually states that he coughs all the time because he always has a cold.
