]If there were no comments you would find the next thing to complain about. And people would find other things to make hurtful comments. There have been so many hurtful comments on me and other white people, because maybe they had pimples or their clothes were not expensive enough or their nose had a strange shape or they played the violin or they were too fat or too skinny or not able to run fast. The earlier point I, and I'm sure others were trying to make, is that if you want to sit by as your rights and freedoms are disregarded then do that. I just won't be standing behind you.

Anka, I know where you're coming from. We will never make the world perfectly just, and there comes a point at which we can do no more, and at that point it make sense to reflect on all the advantages we have. That point is different for different people, and I would never tell anyone that they must be campaigning for more justice. Some people do seem to think that life must stop until justice has been achieved; I don't think that's right, and it can create more unhappiness.
But surely when we can do something it's right for us to try? A while ago, you spoke up about the atmosphere at 667 and how some people were being unfairly mocked. Once you had said it, I agreed with you, and so did Betsy and Lemona, and we actually managed to change something. But you took the first step, and I admire you for it. That was activism. In a tiny way, it made the world a fairer place. That was pretty easy, because 667ers are generally nice people, and once they were made aware there was a problem they were ready to do something about it. Sometimes it will be a lot harder than that. But when something can be done to promote fairness - and a lot has been done, so clearly it's possible up to a point - it must be right to do it.

Hm. Thinking about this I realise that what annoys me are the people who go out on the street and make noise and insult politicians for being unfair, and write articles for newspapers about how we shouldn't be racist, and then with their friends at school they make fun of some unpopular person. The people who want to change the world, but aren't even able to change their own hometown.

I think it's nice that people want to be as happy as possible and want other people to be happy and are willing to fight for that.

I think life is unfair for everyone. But sometimes we should just see what we have and not always focus on what we don't have. That's true, otherwise life would be literally unbearable for most people. But this is one thing and just accepting life's injustice is another. Just think if people said the things you say in Europe in the Middle Ages and those living conditions would've stayed. It'd be like living in a pot of sh*t today. Or if people just accepted that slavery is a thing. I agree that life is not fair. It's something we all must realize. As well as the fact that 200 years ago was considered "modern" as well, and in 200 years time from now, today won't be considered "modern" anymore either. Just like it's unimaginable today that Aztecs in Ancient Mexico were sacrificing people on a monthly basis, it may be unimaginable in the future that abortion was legal today (just as an example). Life is change, we can't just stop evolving. And if the people on the streets stay quiet, we just leave all the important decisions up to the few people with the most money and power, who only intend to get more money and power and would leave everybody else to suffer and stay in their misery. Talking is the first step to come to a solution. Yes, change is slow, but when the zeitgeist of a generation comes to full swing, change will be inevitable (for better or worse). So protesting and openly discussing things is not pointless. Otherwise people'd just assume that they're alone in their unhappiness about something and nothing would change.

I just think there are enough unhappy people right in front of our doors, and still we help other people we have never seen first. And often making one person happy will make another person unhappy.

No, not sadists. People just have different opinions. And when for example someone somewhere is paid more for their work producing something these people might be happier, but things will get more expensive and people who don't have much money won't be able to buy them and they will be unhappy.

So Anka's not saying she hates activism. She hates hypocritical activists.
