The Contemptible Christmas
Part 1
Marjorie Holmes has said that at Christmas, all roads lead home. This is often true, but there are times when home is not where you want to be headed on the holiday in question.
The Baudelaire orphans had only recently got out of their last home, which turned out to be not a very nice home due to the presence of Count Olaf in disguise, trying to steal their fortune. They had been unable to contact Mr Poe due to all the bank holidays and were almost homeless on the street when a passing troupe of actors took pity on them and invited the children to join them.
As it turned out, the actors were on their way to the annual Christmas parade in their home town, they had all sorts of costumes from snowmen to angels, reindeer to elves, also these actors were like proper nice people not like the acting troupe from the first home the three children suffered in.
The Baudelaire children thought that this would be a fun activity, as especially as this is the first Christmas they will have to endure with their parents dead, they needed something to do to keep their spirits up. They found some christmas elf costumes which fit them nicely and joined the actors on their journey home, glad they had found a home for the holiday season.
Once they had arrived, it was time to set up all of the stuff for the Christmas parade, Violet was able to use her inventing skills to help maintain the parade floats, they didn't have all the tools needed so Sunny helped out by using her teeth as screwdrivers and wrenches when it was required, she was also in charge of the catering due to her cooking skills.
Klaus was helping all the actors with their costumes, he had once read a book about christmas so he knew all about the various characters involved, the raindeer, the snowmen, the elves and angels, but there was one costume missing. He asked the head actor about it but was told not to worry.
"We have one guy who has his own costume, he should be here shortly." and sure enough, they doorbell rang and the door was opened, and who stood there but Count Olaf in a bright red fat suit and big fake white beard and red hat and he smiled and looked at the children.
"Seasons greetings." he said
