Best bit of the movie was probably the set/ costume design, imo You mean the aesthetic?

I will hostilely attack the movie for a lot of things, but Meryl Streep was literally flawless. I would watch a ten-part Aunt Josephine miniseries easy. That being said, I don't agree that it captured the aesthetic well. I feel that it did exaggerate the dark too much, and expand the humour to an unfunny level (which makes sense, as it was a nickelodeon film or whatever disney I don't care). The terrible acting (I'm looking at you Jim Carry sorry), was dumb, and the spyglass stuff, whilst resolving the plot was, I totally agree, the absolute worst. I'm not getting optimistic about the netflix series quite yet, I'm sure they'll find some way to screw it up (fingers crossed they don't tho). Best bit of the movie was probably the set/ costume design, imo ^ that. I kinda hated Jim Carrey's performance, too overacted. I like him for the role, but Olaf is dark and sinister, even when he can have funny/goofy moments. Carrey's Olaf was just dumb and ridiculous all the time. Also, different directors are not going to mean HUGE changes since the cohesion has to be aesthetical. As long as the dresser, makeup and scenography team is the same, it should work just well.

I think Jim Carrey was the worst thing, though Olaf must be a difficult part to play, given the way his character varies throughout the series. (At the beginning he's genuinely threatening; later he becomes more comic; later still he's both comic and threatening, as he loses his grip on reality.)
The spyglass thing doesn't worry me. There's a basic problem in the plot, in that in the early books the characters don't know about VFD or about the volunteer/villain conflict when, given what happens later, they clearly ought to. It's fair, I think, to play up the VFD aspect of the plot earlier to cope with this.

I have no opinion on the acting, dislike the changes to the plot (moving around the marriage, the uninteresting train track bit, the spyglasses) and liked the whole steampunk thing and most of the sets.

I actually rather liked the train track part. Of course, it only existed because they rearranged the books, which they shouldn't have to do for the Netflix series, but as a bridge scene necessitated by the rearrangement (which I think was also an idea that made sense in the movie context), I think it fitted in quite well.

Wait.. I thought this was fanmade at first, but the leech's CGI really seems to good... :0
I'm not all too fond of the kinda cutesy song, but it's not terrible. Other than that this actually looks pretty good. Love all of the references.
EDIT: The vinyl at the beginning says "The Gothic Archies: Le Compositeur est Mort" (so, The Composer is Dead, obviously; double reference!); there's also a hotel boy cap with "HD" (Hotel Denouement) on it; a Lucky Smells Lumbermill coaster, photos, and plan; a model head for Olaf's Shirley disguise; a Lake Lachrymose map (behind that creepy leech in a jar) (TWW); shed snake skin in jars (TRR); The Daily Punctilio newspaper; and "The Marvellous Marriage" tickets (TBB).
And books abound!: "Nuptial Law" (TBB), "How To Start Fires", Sinclair Lewis' "Main Street", "Mushroom Minutiae" (TGG), "Advanced Ocular Scientists" &"The Paltryville COnstitution" (TMM), and one with the VFD logo on it.
The (second) song is The Dresden Dolls' Missed Me, apparently.

I've found no verification that this is official, but if it is fan-made, it's a truly incredible job.

I'll translate what I wrote in a brazilian facebook group about asoue: If it's fanmade I want to hug this person and ask him/her to do more of this because it's really good.

It's very well-made indeed; if it is fan-made, this fan is very efficient, skilful and wealthy. Either way, it's very exciting indeed to look at the contents of each frame! EDIT: Even the channel's header image runs with the same aesthetic- I wonder if it's a very, very dedicated and skilful fan (perhaps trying to make some money from the hype with YouTube hits or just having fun) or it's a sneaky promotional account. After all, I'm not sure how easy it is to make YouTube accounts without using a forename and surname for the username these days. Edit #2: Oh! I didn't realise you posted a video from a different channel to the one that I watched it on m.youtube.com/watch?sns=fb&v=Xer4VCa5-tg (I'm on my phone- sorry if the link doesn't function well. The channel is Eleanora Poe). So far, I'm going to deduce that it is indeed a promotional account. I'm guessing it's too early in production to release anything elaborate so they're giving an ambiguous 'teaser' to keep up the hype. I'm hyped.

I'm not all too fond of the kinda cutesy song, but it's not terrible. Cutesy? The song's about pedophelia / child molestation. I think it's pretty appropriate. (Other than that Kudos on the Gravity Falls avatar!)
