there's nothing wrong with using a more vague word to be more inclusive and to celebrate that inclusiveness

Yes, "happy holidays" is definitely meant to be inclusive, and some people seem to think it's ridiculously fussy, but I've never seen the problem with it.

Being vague isn't being inclusive, being vague is being vague
Edit : Oh two more posts Darn. What i mean is, I don't see why saying Happy Holidays is being in any way inclusive.
It's not a war on christmas, it's just unfair to those that have to work over that period (this last scentence is a joke (or supposed to be) )

Yeah but that vagueness covers a multitude of things, which is inclusive.

it's better than saying "i hope you enjoy only this one specific holiday that i also celebrate, BUT NONE OTHERS"

or, more specificly, who cares what you say, but if you're going to get upset at someone being lazy yet inclusive, because you percieve it as an attack on your specific holiday, then you can go hang

For me holidays means "time without school or work which is not a weekend". I don't really get how anyone could be offended if someone says "Happy Something Day". Even if I don't celebrate Something Day, it still is Something Day, and I still like that someone wants me to be happy on that day.
To get back a bit closer to the topic, for example I don't celebrate Halloween and I really don't like the idea of it, but if someone says Happy Halloween I'm okay with that.
And to get back to the actual topic,I don't know what a Salem witch is. I googled it and google told me some history stuff, but it didn't tell me what the difference is between going as a normal witch and as a Salem witch.

To be more inclusive isn't always the same as being vague. However, in the intrest of being inclusive, i'll always say happy holidays to you sam. Edit : reading that back that last bit sounds dick-ih. I mean that i'll say happy holidays to you because you want me to say that, not out of any kind of bitterness/anger.

But is it important to be specific in that kind of situation? If you're wishing a particular person a happy something that you know they celebrate, then you would be specific, but if you're addressing people in general, or a stranger, being vague is probably not such a big deal.

Ah, well i guess that taps into my wird mindset - i would either find out what they celebrate or say nothing. Or if they chose not to disclose what they celebrated then i would say 'well i celebrate christmas so merry christmas to you too!'. I don't want to be impersonal with someone.
