Tryina, is it a widely celebrated holiday in Indonesia? No, but it's starting to rise in popularity in major cities in Java (eg. the capital city.) And my school is an international school, which is why we're so weird compared to other schools here. Actually, many Indonesians think Halloween is evil. IDK why, but I'm 100% sure it's a thing in here. Also, you're debating on holiday terms, which kinda strays from the thread topic. But whatever. I'm happy to have asked for suggestions from y'all.

Yeah, we already kinda had that debate a few months ago. I still say the whole 'Happy Holidays' thing is oppressive if it is enforced (socially or legally). It's a way of making people keep their religion to themselves, which benefits no one except for atheists. Oh, and regarding OP: Only go as a Salem witch if you're willing to explain what your costume is to people you meet on Halloween, Tryina. (If that's not problem for you, then why not?)

yeah but its still a very simple outfit With the time constraints, it's still more difficult to make than the 'mainstream witch'. Also I can't buy a costume on Amazon now, despite the IDR to USD exchange rate inflating, bc it's still too expensive. And shipping!

One problem with 'Happy Holidays' is that it assumes everyone is keeping a festival at that time, which isn't actually true. I think a lot of people really mean 'Christmas and Hanukkah', but that only covers two religions, and anyway Hanukkah is sometimes quite a bit earlier than Christmas.
On the other hand, you can take 'holidays' to mean simply 'Christmas and New Year'. I suspect it may originally have meant that; some Christians, especially those from Puritan traditions, don't keep Christmas, and this used to be more common. (Within living memory Christmas wasn't kept publicly in Scotland.)

Nah, he's too young for that. To be one of the wise men you gotta be, like, a centenarian.

Halloween used to be bigger here than it was - last year I actually only saw one thing to do with it.
