Pretty sure there's people here whose diminished eyesight requires them to wear glasses, like me. Been considering trying out contact lenses (never did before); anybody got any advice, thoughts, experiences, funny stories on that?

advice is why bother, they're uncomfortable and specs can be a fashion accessory

I have once, almost twice, had my glasses fall off during a concert though. Luckily I found them and they survived with a small scratch or two, but I imagine, that contacts would be harder to lose (and not as expensive to replace).

My optician is really surly and the last time I was there for a check up and he was scowling at his pad and scribbling away, I leaned over and obnoxiously said 'So do I have 20/20 vision?' And he sighed and said, 'Actually it's better than that.'
And I'm pretty sure my optician hates me.
I've never worn contacts but I'd like to try coloured or fancy dress contacts some time.

not really the topic but related, I had a dream last night where someone stabbed my good eye out and I was blind, and the ambulance took so long to come and help that I decided to eat rice pudding. #goodtimes

Very annoying to use imo, and of course there's the possibility of them getting stuck, which is always a fun time.

I've actually considered somehow putting an optional eyewear strap on my frame, so if they should slip off they'll still be around my neck. But I'd have to DIY it so that the strap wouldn't be obnoxiously long so I don't look like Steve goddang Urkel.

I tried contact lenses but I can't get used to the whole process of cleaning and taking care of them. I just have them and use them in special occasions like concerts or cosplay.

I am super sensitive to anything touching my eye so I would never be able to stand wearing contacts.

I wear contacts lenses basically every day now Years of squinting at tensor algebra on blackboards at uni effed my eyes Rip

"better than 20/20" to contact lenses in 5 years is pretty fast for deteriorating eyesight :0
About two years ago I got myself disposable contact lenses for the first time, and have since worn them only a handful of times. Mostly because those first times I needed ages to get them in. Getting them out is, thankfully, a bit easier. Tbh, I still have trouble getting them in. But mostly I hate that they take time getting used to if one doesn't wear them regularly. When I put them in after a long abstinence, my vision is kind of blurry around the edges for a few hours, and - as my doctor warned me - I shouldn't wear them for longer than a couple of hours if unaccustomed to them... I did once anyway, and I was dizzy after taking them out because everything was suddenly smaller with my glasses on. So yeah, they're a real bother, though an OK option to have. When concerts are a thing again, I'll probably wear them more.
