In the penthouse we were talking about the Best New Member award. The problem is that sometimes people make an account, maybe even one or two posts, and then don't become active members until years later. With the rules as they are, those people can't be nominated for Best New Member. They may not be new members by the date their account was made, but they feel like new members and they seem like new members to us, so it would maybe be a good idea to change the rules so they can be nominated.
There will be a vote about this tomorrow. It will probably just be a yes-no vote, but I don't want to make the poll yet, in case more people want to say something about it first.
With the old rules, for being nominated for Best New Member you had to: - have created the account in the past calendar year - never have been nominated for the Darkies (in any category) before - not have been an active member with a different account before
If we change the rules, you would only have to: - never have been nominated for the Darkies (in any category) before - not have been an active member with a different account before and of course people should use common sense when nominating.

What would be the cut off line, though? Like, how many posts would cross the threshold for somebody to be still considered "new", when coming back after a longer absence? From personal experience, I can also say that if you don't get nominated in your first year as Best New Member, people will be used to you by next year and not consider you new or best anymore... not that I'm bitter about that

Normally people get nominated for something in their first active year, so I don't think we need any number of posts or anything. The idea was mostly for people like Zortegus, who joined in 2013 and made very few posts and then came back in 2015. Or last year someone wanted to nominate Pevalwen who had created his account in 2008, made one post in 2013 and then started posting more in 2014.

Pevalwen posted quite a lot in his first couple of years, though. He really wasn't a new member, just a returned member, who some newer members didn't know about.

Really? I think I even looked at his profile to see when he started posting, but maybe that doesn't show everything.
