Oh dear, I regret having not looked at this thread sooner! Your art is beautiful. I love that you have a definitive style that is so unique and original. My compliments, Violent BUN Fortuna . Thank you ever so much for such a lovely comment! I spent a lot of time developing my style so it's very gratifying to be complimented on it.

Your art is stunning! Do you have a deviantart or something like that? However, if you want to see any more of my work I do have an online portfolio here: tabithamarsh.weebly.com/portfolio.htmlA lot of the work there is stuff I've shown in this thread, but there are some other things too and I update it and refresh it fairly often so that my best and most recent work is up there. I'm also going to be starting an art blog there soon, so I'll be posting sketches and stuff on there. I'll go and check then!

Hallo! I know it's been ages since my last illustration -- sorry! I've been very busy over the past month and a bit with: a) Obsessing over how much I love Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, b) Going on holiday, twice, with no internet access, c) Reading the Jennings books by Anthony Buckeridge which I love, d) freaking out all over again about the new Pottermore ebooks. So I haven't had too much time for drawing, all in all, but I did finally manage to get this done -- Violet holding her grappling hook just before she climbs up the tower!
'But, standing there shivering in her nightgown, Violet knew she had to try.'I really loved drawing Violet's nightgown. The swoop of the fabric has such a great feeling to it. I looked up old-fashioned nightgowns for inspiration because I felt Mrs Poe would most likely have bought the Baudelaires fairly ridiculous nightwear in addition to day clothes, and there were a lot of very flouncy things with layers and lace and ribbons, etc., hence the puffed sleeves and layered skirt I've given Violet.

Ha, you like Jennings! I loved those books when I was young! I used to identify with the character of Darbishire.
Oh, the art? Beautiful use of light and shade, and a very imaginative conception of the nightgown.

I've read them since I was a child and they're just as hilarious every time I come back to them. Ha! Yes, I too identify with Darbishire -- or perhaps a mixture of Jennings and Darbishire. The adventurousness of Jennings coupled with Darbishire's ability in all matters sporting ... Plus Darbishire's interest in quiet things like wildflowers and books. I came across a copy of Jennings' Diary in the fabulous Barter Books while on holiday and it made me so happy. Thank you! It's great fun designing their clothes.

Oh, by the way, have you read Good Omens? (If you have, you'll see why I'm asking.)

What is it about? Oh gosh. The apocalypse, I suppose, only not. It is humorous fantasy, by Britain's two greatest fantasy writers of recent years, and features witches, apocalyptic horsemen, a totally not gay angel/devil pair, and...
But I mention it because it also includes a gang of children, who are generally said to be based on William and the Outlaws, and as a group they are, but one of them, as an individual, is clearly based on Darbishire.

Haha, sorry -- 'what is it about?' is one of those dreadful questions that I hate to answer, because it's always so difficult to know where to begin, but which I also continually find myself asking other people.
Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett -- I confess I disagree that they're Britain's two greatest fantasy writers of recent years -- or recent ears, as I almost typed -- but I'll certainly have a look at it, as your description does sound intriguing. I have often found in the past that I like their ideas more than their realisations, as it were. That is, I adore some of their creations, but not how they actually write about them. However, I haven't read very much of either of them, and I think Neil Gaiman's writing is growing on me, so I should see if I like them a bit more these days.
Ahh, I see. William -- another great series, and I especially love Martin Jarvis's readings. Incidentally, I would love some really excellent Jennings audiobooks but I simply can't tell if I'd enjoy the ones which are available on itunes or not, as the previews aren't long enough to give me a good idea.
I was reading 'Jennings As Usual' yesterday and came to a point when Darbishire 'gurgled' with laughter, which I always find very sweet, and another in which, while he draws his Christmas cards early in order to make Christmas seem closer than it really is, he firmly talks about liking snow and robins and classic things like that on his Christmas cards, and I felt a huge wave of association because I feel exactly the same way. They're such very nice books -- familiar and comforting. I was also reflecting the other day that, like with all good books, you can really imagine the characters having ever more adventures after the last page has been turned. Just as one knows that Sherlock Holmes can of course still be found at 221B Baker Street, one is absolutely sure that Jennings and Darbishire are still causing havoc at Linbury Court, Mr Carter is still kind and understanding, and Mr Wilkins still explodes with exasperation, probably on a daily basis. There's something so utterly charming about their world, and you just know that it will carry on, unchanging, forever.

Well. Ahem. This took me a lot longer to get round to than I wanted it to, but, here we go: FINALLY, I've completed some more illustrations! Two more, to be precise. I'm officially done with all my work for my second year of university so I'm finally free to return my attention to my illustrations (huzzah!) and so that's what I have immediately begun to do.
In my room, for instance, I have gathered a collection of objects that are important to me, including a dusty accordion on which I can play a few sad songs, a large bundle of notes on the activities of the Baudelaire orphans, and a blurry photograph, taken a very long time ago, of a woman whose name is Beatrice. One of the white-faced women put a flowered headdress on Violet, who realized in horror that the dress she had changed into was a bridal gown.I now only have one illustration left for The Bad Beginning, and then it's on to The Reptile Room! I'm very excited to be starting a new book. I'm going to be changing the scene illustrations for each book -- so while for TBB all the illustrations of the actual scenes are in black and white, for TRR I think I'll be changing that, and then they'll change again for TWW, etc. I think, anyway.
Annyyywayy -- I hope you like these new illustrations! Hopefully I'll be able to complete several over the next couple of weeks before I go home for the summer and probably lose access to an A3 scanner.
