Oh, wow. I forgot how good all these are. Well, thank you for remembering. (I joke.) (Thank you for such a nice comment.)

So, here at last is my last drawing for The Bad Beginning! One book done, twelve more to go ... plus TBL, TUA, ATWQ, etc. If I carry on at this rate it will be about 19 years before I'm done with all the books & extra material. Anyway, I want to do a drawing for each of the 'To my kind editor' letters, and here is the first. "I am writing to you from the London branch of the Herpetological Society, where I am trying to find out what happened to the reptile collection of Dr. Montgomery Montgomery following the tragic events that occurred while the Baudelaire orphans were in his care."

How beautifully herpetological! Why thank you! It was very fun to draw. Or, I should say, it was a Very Fun Drawing.

Haha, I really like the snake architecture! And of course, the drawing itself looks beautiful as always. Congratulations on finishing TBB!

Haha thanks, I felt the Herpetological Society would be the sort of society to really go overboard -- Everything. Must. Be. About. SNAKES. Thank you!! Looking forward to starting TRR soon!

So as I've just got back to university I'm finally able to scan in my illustrations again! I completed three drawings for The Reptile Room over the summer and I've really wanted to share them for ages but I simply couldn't upload them.
As the books progress, I want to experiment with doing a variety of illustration types, as it were. So whereas for TBB I simply had the Snicket's desk illustrations and the black and white ones, I'm keen to do other types as well with the other books, so I started TRR as I intend to continue the series -- with a sort of illustration I haven't done before. I was very pleased with it, but at the same time I don't think I'll do another with this design; I think it worked as a one off, but I don't want to keep using it (I think).
The next ones I did were back to the designs I've used before (which I will continue to use for the entire series, just with other ones thrown in).
'Lousy Lane traverses the Grim River, a body of water that is nine-tenths mud and that contains extremely unnerving fish ...'I enjoyed this illustration because these fish are just mentioned in this one line and we never learn about them -- they're not key to the plot or anything like that. So I really enjoyed just focusing on this tiny detail and turning it into my first illustration for TRR.

So for my second TRR illustration it's back to Snicket's desk. I've been longing to do this illustration ever since first started this project -- I just adore drawing food, it seems, and the coconut cake just seemed a great part to draw. I also really liked the colours for this illustration; Monty's kitchen table is green so I thought Lemony might base himself there for a lot of his research. I think it creates a pleasant colour scheme with the creams and greens working well together. ' "Doesn't Sunny like coconut?' Uncle Monty asked.
He, Mr. Poe, and the Baudelaire orphans were all sitting around
a bright green table, each with a slice of Uncle Monty's cake.'

And for my third and (currently) last illustration, I chose a moment I've always loved. This is when the Baudelaires race through the snake-shaped hedged to take Mr. Poe back to his car. This, to me, seems like one of the exceedingly rare moments in the series that the children actually get to be children. So although it's very brief, I wanted to illustrate it. 'The three Baudelaire children, who had been so anxious when they had walked through the snake-shaped hedges the first time, raced confidently through them now as they escorted Mr.Poe to his automobile.'

So I know I haven't updated this in an awfully long time, but it's finally the Easter holidays, which means that hopefully before too long I'll be able to do some more ASOUE illustrations (although I doubt I'll get to share them for a few weeks, as I won't be able to scan them in at home). Anyway, in the meantime I thought I would share a couple of the drawings I've been doing for my university work, because these two drawings in particular felt like they could fit quite comfortably into The Reptile Room. While they're not actually anything to do with ASOUE, they're still drawings of snakes and I felt they would make nice decorations here, as it were, until I get to post some more ASOUE drawings. I can kind of imagine that perhaps some of Monty's snakes would slither around the house and curl themselves around picture frames and things like that, can't you? So, until I have more proper illustrations up, these are perhaps background details from Monty's house. Perhaps I'll draw them into the backgrounds of some of my illustrations; that would be fun. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these.

I love the level of detail on these! The scales look fantastic.
