Is anyone else here lowbrow enough to love a good pulp horror novel?

I've wanted to try Stephen King for a long while, but that's true of so many authors, so I haven't yet.

What genres do you usually like? I bet I could find the proper SK novel to start with.

Mhm, I guess that Fantasy and Sci-fi are the genres I'm most invested in, but really I care a lot less about that than about general narrative style. I like Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Haruki Murakami, David Mitchell, those sorts of writers, if that's any help. Though I have to keep your expectations lowered: Even if you find the perfect book for me to begin with, it'll probably be a long while before I get to reading it. In fact, I think someone has already recommended me a good SK book to start with in the 'What are you reading' thread, though I don't remember which one.
Either way, though, thanks for the nice thought!

With DH/LS, SK is my favorite writer alive. He's perfect.
