I am already very impressed that they released the first season on a Friday the 13th; I wouldn't be disappointed if that was a one-off event. I wouldn't mind them holding off the release date for a few weeks so it can land on a Friday the 13th but if dates are awkward and it would cause a delay of several months then I'd much rather they just pick a more convenient date.
Does anyone know if Netflix usually release shows on Fridays? The only two original content shows of theirs I've eagerly anticipated were Black Mirror (season 3) and ASOUE, and they were both released on Friday, but I'm wondering if that's just a fluke.

Yes, Friday is when they release all their original series.

Hi all, newbie here! Just had a look on the Directors Guild of Canada website and it states that filming dates for 'Season 2' are April 17, 2017 - April 20, 2018. Could this be confirmation of plans to film Seasons 2 and 3 more or less back-to-back? Info on Page 11 here: Link
IIRC Season 1 started filming April 4th, 2016 and wrapped around August 6th. So about 18 weeks. Or ~4.5 weeks per book. With 10 episodes in Season 2 it'll probably need another 4-5 weeks so will likely wrap in mid-to-late September. If Season 3 needs 18 weeks like Season 1 then accounting for the Christmas break they could start filming the S3 the week after Thanksgiving and be competed by the April 20th, 2018 date. That would give them a ~2 month break in between seasons. I'm sure Daniel Handler said somewhere that Season 1 was supposed to premiere February and Barry Sonnenfeld wasnt happy about the moving a few weeks early to January as he wanted a full six months of post-production. So if he similarly wants 6 months of PP for Season 2 then at this rate the earliest it'll be ready is probably mid-March. If that's the case then it's not unreasonable to imagine they'll shift it a few weeks for the same reason as Season 1, to land on Friday the 13th (of April). The good news is, by that logic, if the filming dates above are correct then they could get Season 3 out as early as October 2018!

Excellent, convincing analysis, veryfreshdill. I'd agree that, with filming starting around the same time this year as it did for Season 1 last year and with two more episodes to produce, it is, sadly, unlikely that we'll be seeing any more ASoUE this year - but the turnaround on Series 3 should be a different matter. If we have to wait more than a year for Season 2, I imagine we won't have to do the same for Season 3.

Thanks Dante, glad you enjoyed. I was holding out hope myself for a December 2017 launch but I think if we all expect April 2018 there's practically no chance we'll be disappointed. A 15-month gap is painful but I notice 'Stranger Things' has a similar gap between its first two seasons (July 2016 + October 2017) so it's not unprecedented.
Like you said, there certainly won't be that big a gap between 2 and 3. I imagine the earliest they'll release Season 3 is late October 2018 (to tie in with Halloween?) so possibly a 6-month gap, with the latest being January 2018, a 9-month gap. The other good news is, if the dates are correct then even if Season 2 tanks (which is unlikely) Season 3 will already be in the can, so no chance of a cancellation. Hopefully we'll get an official statement from Netflix by mid-April that the show has been renewed for two seasons so we can all rest easy!

I have a feeling that we won't get much set photos like last year I can't think of much location that will use a real location. Think it's going to be done all in studio again

I could see the exterior of 667 Dark Avenue being filmed on location given that it's only really seen like once or twice. Can't think of much else unfortunately.
Who knows, maybe they'll show us more from the set this time around, I can hope anyway.
It's good to see that they're filming back to back. For release dates my current guess is April 13th 2018 for season 2 and July 13th 2018 for season 3. The scheduling certainly makes it possible.

I think the Friday 13th was a cute detail for the first season, but it's boring if they do it every season just to make it fit. The first time it just happened to be a Friday 13th near the date they had the show ready, now I want season 2 and 3 asap, I don't care if it's the 13th or not.
Also I assume they'll give us more sneak peeks for the next two seasons, having not only us loyal fans to keep interested but also casual viewers.

The main reason I want them to stick to the Friday the 13th dates is because in 2018 that would mean getting both seasons with only three months in between. Granted with the large amount of CGI needed for season 3 I don't really think July 2018 is realistic, probably closer to August or September. Though I would be happy with any date so long as they were released within a few months of each other rather than the year we're waiting now and waited previously.

I know it's super fun to believe, but I can basically promise there's no way we're getting both seasons in the same year. It would make far more sense from a marketing perspective to drag it out over the course of a pair of years. As deeply as I don't want that to be true. The only options I could see are very early 2018 for Season Two then very late 2018 for season 3.

I certainly don't want two seasons in the same year. I've waited 13 years for this, make it last and make it worthy. As long as they do it good and the kids don't have beard and tits in the last season, I'm okay with waiting until 2020.
