So this might be fun.
Desert Island Discs is a radio series in the uk that has been running for the last 75 years. Each episode features a different famous person choosing items that they would take with them to a desert island. You are allowed 8 songs, a book, and a luxury item. I thought it might be fun to have a thread where people can choose that for themselves.
A couple of rules
- You also have to pick which of the 8 songs is your favourite.
- The luxury item cannot be a living thing.
- The luxury item cannot be anything that would help you to escape your desert island
- You are also automatically given a bible or any other religious text you desire, and you are also given the complete works of Shakespeare, so you cannot pick any of those things as your book.
I will list my picks now. I will explain a bit about why i've chosen each thing. You can do that too if you want but you don't have to.
Songs
Tom Odell - Another Love
Okay, so this song I picked for a couple of small reasons. This song reminds me of talking with people in the penthouse on 667 a lot, as it was new at the time when I starting to get involved socially with 667 a lot. I also remember talking about this song with Kit's tits kick ticks and it being one of the first songs we talked about together. I also liked this song a long time before it become more (relatively) well known, and i'm perhaps less of a fan of it now then i was then. But basically this is my most 'thinking of 667' song.
Elbow - Lippy Kids
This song has less personal attachment to me. It's just a great song with lyrics that remind me of my childhood. I was talking to Charlie about this song the other day and he said the lyrics sound exactly like england, which I guess is another reason I like it.
Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder - Together in Electric Dreams
This is probably the song i like least that is here, but its a song my nan really likes, and I remember hearing it a lot as a child.
The XX - Angels
There isn't any major reason why this is here other than it being awesome
Snow Patrol, Martha Wainwright - Set The Fire to the Third Bar
This my cheesy Kit's tits kick ticks song. Bonus Fact : The lyrics of this song used to be in my signature at one point
Of Monsters and Men - Little Talks
Okay, so first of all this song is awesome. Secondly I first heard this song on a pretty awesome summer day where my family went out somewhere for the day and it was really fun. Thirdly, OMAM and ATWQ are both associated in my head a lot, which I've spoken about before here. Also the music video is fun.
Bastille - Flaws
Bastille are my favourite musical thing ever, and I probably could have made a list of 8 Bastille songs but that wouldn't have been fun. I chose this song because its the first Bastille song I ever heard and is probably my favourite to sing.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Otherside
This was my favourite song when I was a child, and the first song I ever really liked.
Favourite Song : Probably the Of Monsters and Men one
Book : I would like to take all the volumes of A Song of Ice and Fire, but only if I can actually have the unpublished ones too.
Luxury Item : A Snooker table.
So go on, join in. Post your own.
